Is it too late to upgrade to a P from AWD?

I watched the non-P AWD vs. RWD drag race video and I’m sold on the P. That 0-30 difference is insane.

My dates are 4/3/16; 6/30/18 on a non-P AWD. Folks with dates close to mine are starting to get calls.

If I switch to the P, am I potentially delaying my delivery, or would I keep my place in line, potentially jumping ahead, because it’s a P order?

Any change can potentially delay your vehicle, depending on how far along in the build process it is. They will tell you this over the phone as well.

I am confused though, because your post title doesn't match your description
"Too late to upgrade to a P from AWD"
"I watched Non-P AWD vs RWD Video..."

So you watched a video comparing the car you have on order to the base model and now you want to upgrade?

Yep, exactly. The non P AWD’s acceleration looks very close to the RWD’s from 0-30. I had my fingers crossed that the AWD would be significantly faster there, but it doesn’t seem to be. I think I’d regret not going for the P in that case.

Thanks! Did you do it online, or through a rep?

Online. I've been told on the phone before that free data and prior pricing would be retained for edited orders that were initially placed before Aug 1. I don't know what the current new order pricing is, but my muti-coat red, white interior, etc are all the same price as before the change.

On a side note, I did not see a way to enter a referral on the edit for the free supercharging, so I'm hoping once I get a specialist assigned I can have them use our own code for the referral program. Not a deal killer regardless.

If you don't have a VIN, you can upgrade.

Even if you have a VIN I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla is accommodating. They're big fans of money.

This is true but not all combinations are arriving equally (P+ with black interior as example)

I'd call to be sure it goes smoothly. At this point, get a referral code too for free supercharging - that expires Sept 16

If you do call you still may want to make the change directly on the website when on the call with them. When I made an earlier change with them over the phone they emailed me a "form" while on the phone and asked that I reply to that email with the changes I wanted. It was a full two weeks before that change was then processed and applied to my order.

Made the change from AWD to P on 8/20. 4/1/16 reservation holder. Delivery estimate on 8/20 went from Sept-Nov to Oct-Dec. Later last week, delivery estimate went to "by October". Truly believe will get the car late September or October. Get what you really want if you can. Secure referral code from someone, and call in to make the change. They will send you email to change order, and allow you to give them the referral code for lifetime free Super Charging. Good luck. Deadline Sept. 15 or 16 for free SC.
