Is the missing bolt important?

Anybody know what the bolt about 2 inches in front of the front jacking point under the car up inside the little compartment is for? There is a little plastic cover 1.5 x 1.5 inches that opens by swinging down to access the compartment. I noticed the little door was open this morning when hosing off the wheelwells and looked inside - there was an empty hole in the one that was open (drivers side) and the one on the passenger side does have a bolt in the hole for comparison.

Thanks!

Is it really a bolt? Sounds like you are describing one of the plastic rivets that hold the plastic trim between the battery case and the outside edge of the car. Can you post a picture of the spot you are describing?

Nope - definately not a tow hook. Must be kind of important though to have its own little compartment. Can't take a pict as too dark now. Will post one in the AM. Its literally 2 inches in front of the front jack point and the little door is completely hidden unless you know its there. Serious mystery!
