Is the MY RWD motor the same as the rear motor in the LR?

As per the title, is the motor in the RWD the same as the rear motor in the LR?

So my question is in normal driving, they’ll have the same efficiency and driving characteristics. It’s only when you press on that the front motor kicks in and gives additional power and traction.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe. It varies between factory model year. You’d need to check. See here for some relevant info In the manual.

At a high level yes, the rear wheel drive has the same type of permanent magnet motor as the AWD variants, but as per above link there are different motor iterations and configurations depending on exactly what you‘re comparing.

The capacity is smaller but being LFP the energy density is less so it isn’t really physically smaller or lighter.

The Model 3 SR+ (RWD) has a notable weight advantage over the LR (200kg ish) because of the single motor and smaller battery but with the change to LFP RWD Model 3 it gained about 100kg ... though new RWD still about 100kg lighter than the LR or Performance but they of course have that extra motor and extra battery capacity.

Yeah the old M3 SR+ with a smaller NCA battery was noticeably lighter when driving it, whereas the newest SR+ and now the RWD are less than 100 kg lighter.

For the MY I think the difference is around 70 kg. The weight of the motor/drive unit and driveshafts must be more than that so the LFP battery is actually heavier than the MYLR/MYP battery.
