Is there an issue with UK Service Technicians?

I’ve got the dreaded tear boot lock failure, and typically going on holiday on Monday. I have been pushing for a quick response form the service request, however while. Was waiting I dropped into the Tesla to see if a technician could have a look, and they only had 1 technician working! Two had “moved on” and two were on “medical leave”. I thought it may have been an isolated incident, however after speaking to the service request advisor, apparently Winchester was the same, and they are also low on mobile technicians as people and couldn’t fit me until 24th, but obviously away and then the next being the 8th August.

Is this going to be a on going concern if there are loosing staff?

I had an appointment at Stratford upon Avon cancelled at less than 24 hours notice due to “staff shortage” (extremely annoying as I’d cut my holiday short and was on the M6 when the message came through).
When I finally got there 3 weeks later and demanded an explanation, it sounded like they had dismissed at least one technician with 1 hour’s notice (and zero consideration of customers with bookings).
As far as I could establish it appeared to be cost cutting from the centre …

Holidays and people throwing a sicky after a football match. I can believe, especially if the management is spread thin in the name of efficiency.

But the whole idea of "we own all the service centres to guarantee consistent service and stop rip off practices" doesn't really seem to be holding true, and the "growing pains" argument some used to excuse the issues is also a little thin.

Musk has no qualms at firing people at will for short term impact on the share price and "operational efficiency" and I imagine some won't like that type of environment. Some technicians probably don't want to meet the public and let the service managers deal with them, something Tesla don't have.

Just has to book in the 2023 M3 for a 'steering wobble' that a wheel balance didn't resolve. Usually I'm offered service at the Stockport SC pretty quickly, this time they pointed me to the 'Tesla Service Manchester Central' SC (neat the Etihad I think), and the nearest appointment was about 3 weeks away. Not sure if that is because of resources or service facilities they think they need...?

However, never been to that one before, so will be interesting I guess...

I just tried to get a booking for some warranty work and they said it was approved and the mobile technician would visit, only to backtrack minutes later and say I would have to bring it in to a service centre.
Which would cost me a day of time and a ferry fare. The mobile technician has visited me here to do some work before.

The work i need (replace the cinching motor in the boot) has been done plenty of times by mobile mechanics looking on here, however i was faced with "wiring needs to be checked" and told i had to go to the service centre. If i wasnt handy (or willing to) do some work myself, the car wouldnt have a functioning boot, be constantly beeping, cannot lock the car (security issue) use of autopilot, and also air conditioning not working properly (and strangly it hasnt been as efficient either). You would expect to be repaired swiftly.

I have general concerns about the quality and quantity of Tesla technicians. I would not be surprised if they are overloaded. Where are you based? If the work is not under warranty, perhaps an independent agent could help? Home - HEVRA

I had a tesla technician out on Friday, he had to drive from Leeds to Liverpool. When I asked him why they were having to get someone from Leeds out, he stated that especially in the North West they're really struggling for people. Two of the usual Manchester guys had moved onto other companies and one of them had gone back into the workshop. Even though Chester is my closest centre, I don't even think they have any mobile technicians as I've never had one from there.

It also took a couple of months to even get the appointment and I had to specifically ask for a mobile one after booking a service centre visit, I couldn't actually just book a mobile one.

Booked in for a cabin filter change on a Saturday. Mobile tech came Monday afternoon to fit.

Our Peugeot had to go in for an urgent recall (software update to stop hvac error bricking main battery) and nowhere could do less than 10 weeks! They wanted a whole day and wouldn’t offer a loan car.

@Planky I thought the Southampton mobile tech covered IOW? If you’re going to the Isle EV show on Sunday and they’re there again it might be worth bringing it up.

Last time they came over to do some warranty work it was from Bournemouth, I asked about other centres and they said that they (Tesla) are not doing any visits to the Island.
We are planning on going to the EV show on Sunday so if they are there I will ask them. :)
