Is this a good buy?

Yes its a scam guys. I received the identical generic response from two different people one listing in Atlanta and one in Florida. I'll paste both of their responses below. I am completely new to all of this and so I was a bit naive and gave my phone number along with real email address. I did receive an email with two attachments one for AutoCheck Report and the Inspection Report. I opened it in my real email that has my real first and last name. Is there something I should be concerned about regarding opening the two files? They seemed so legit and I thought it was real.

I got this reply from two different people which led me to believe that my messages weren't going through. This was my first time ever responding to an ad on craigslist. I've always been skeptical and boom I get it right away. Crazy. I've come to realize that most of the real ads have phone numbers and even that doesn't guarantee it 100% but at least you can just call right away and avoid the emails. Their responses are below.

Hi, Sorry for the delay, I saw your email. I presume you are interested in my vehicle, for some reason your message is not displayed correctly.
Please reply with your email address to discuss further.

Thank you!

Hi, I am unable to see your message. If you are interested in my Tesla please email me using my work email below or let me know your email address to coordinate further.

Dave

I sent a reply to this email and got this response

Hi, the Tesla is still available for $24,500. It has 67,500 miles, clean title, no accidents and no money owing on it, and I recently had it inspected by the specialists from National Auto Inspections LLC and has been rated in excellent condition. I have attached both the AutoCheck Report and the Inspection Report to this email for you.
I just got a very good contract to work for a VIP Gym in London, England and I need the money for an advance on a house here in UK, that's why I am in a hurry to sell it.
I have left the vehicle there in US at a freight company, with all the paperwork (title signed by me, keys, service records, etc) so they can handle everything for me.
Let me know if you are interested and here is a link with more pictures: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iDw468PlkiYwop9C3

Then a bit later I got this response from the other ad and that is when I connected the two.

Hi, the Tesla is still available for $24,800. It has 65,738 miles, clean title, no accidents and no money owing on it, and I recently had it inspected by the specialists from National Auto Inspections LLC and has been rated in excellent condition. I have attached both, the Carfax Report and the Inspection Report to this email for you. I am a pilot and I just got a very good contract with Air Emirates in London and I need the money for an advance on a house here in UK, that's why I am in a hurry to sell it. After I realized what was happening I sent a bunch of nasty emails to both and it made me feel a bit better :)

I did also flag them on craigslist and I believe a few were taken but I think a few are still there. I live in Atlanta so if you search craigslist Atlanta Tesla you should be able to see the suspicious ones.

Were these MSWord documents by any chance? Possibly infected with a virus or malware? Do you have a malware/virus scanner?

I've placed dozens of ads on CL to sell stuff, and I always get a slew of responses asking for my real email address. There's NEVER a reason to divulge your real email address or phone number unless you have confirmed an ad/seller is legit. The CL remailer works perfectly fine, despite what these scammers try to pull.

Yes now I know. It was like a PDF so not word file. So I'm good on that end?

I set my self up I guess for future emails since today I got this email and I didn't even contact this person but must be the same guy and just sending from another account since he has my real email.

The vehicle is in Excellent Condition both Aesthetically, Mechanically and Very well maintained!
I am currently in Europe, The vehicle is originally from the US and it is currently registered in US, clean title, there is no lien on the title and there is no duty or cost to re-import the vehicle to the US. The vehicle is currently being stored in Poland, Europe.
This price is the absolute lowest I can go, It is honestly worth more than that but in Poland the registration law is different to register a vehicle that is outside of Europe, this is the reason of selling because it is expensive and difficult to register this vehicle in Poland, Instead of letting it sit in the garage I have decided to sell it.
A third party shipping company will handle the shipping to your location, title transfer and payment and also the price includes the shipping taxes to your location, also I will receive my money after you receive it.

Please let me know if you are interested and I will send you more information about the vehicle and I would like to know if you get a loan from the bank to purchase my vehicle.
Where are you located ?

I look forward hearing from you.

He included pictures and this car is a 2010 Roadster! Lol

Thank you. It was a pdf file but which came as an attachment. I clicked on it and I am not sure if it downloaded to my computer or just let me open it to read it but not saved it?

I once had a CL seller claim he had a 2013 with autopilot. I pointed out that it wasn't offered then, and he claimed he had had it retrofitted at a Tesla Service center. I pointed out that they never offered that service, and he just repeated the claim that he had had it done. And like all the others, he was in Europe, with the vehicle supposedly being held in the US (he claimed it was being held by a division of Kelly Blue Book), and that he wouldn't get my money until after I received the car. Of course, Kelly Blue Book offers no such service. These scammers set up the fake middleman so the money goes directly to them. I wonder how many people have lost tens of thousands of dollars to these slimeballs.

Yes can just imagine how many people fall for these things. You'd think they would have a way to track the IP and nail them. Especially if they are trying to scam thousands

Here's something I haven't seen discussed on this thread that's important for people to know.

The Dave Johnson scam (and maybe others) uses an "escrow" company called Edmunds Online. Their website features the logo from reputable car site Edmunds.com. If you don't look carefully, the Edmunds Online site appears to be an affiliate of the legit Edmunds.com but it's not, and the latter clearly states they don't offer buyer/seller escrow services, title transfer or shipping services, and they clearly warn there are now multiple Edmunds scam sites out there.

Edmunds Online claims to have head offices in Santa Monica, CA, but I've spoken with the SM Business License Dept. and it doesn't show up as a licensed business. I've also filed a report with the Santa Monica City Attorney's Consumer Affairs Office, and they're going to have a look.

When I found my Craigslist scam car at a price too good to be real, part of me suspected it was a scam but I figured the "escrow company" would be my protection against a fraudulent seller. It sounded perfect - I send my money to escrow company; they ship the car to me; I have 3 days to inspect the car; if I accept it, my payment is forwarded to the seller; if I decline, I get a full refund and the car goes back to the escrow company. I was within hours of sending payment when my wife decided to look up the escrow company and the whole thing unraveled.

Since then, I've been watching Craiglist, and I'd say most Tesla's priced under $35,000 are scams. Because I'm watching dozens of cities across the country for new Craigslist Tesla postings, I've been able to watch the same car show up in multiple places - Seattle, Miami, Irvine was a recent one - with the same pictures but different descriptions and different contact info. Buyers beware!

This is the link to the SCAM escrow site, in case your curious. (I've not experienced any malware issues by clicking the link)

Thank you for all this information! I wouldn't say I was close to sending a payment but I had discussed flying to Florida to see the car. They must get someone to bite but yes I would say any Tesla under 35k is probably a scam but also others that have a P85d or P85+ for much lower price than what they are going for.

I was looking up for a GTR r32 and this guy came up! I searched his name and got me here~!! Thanks for the great community post guys~!

Hi,

Due to the high volume of internet scams, I give you the chance to receive the car at your home address BEFORE i receive my money for it. I appreciate your interest but I want to let you know that the car is located in Poland. I purchased the car in US and I moved to Europe, in Poland the law is different recording the registration of a vehicle that is outside of Europe, it is expensive and difficult to register this car in Poland, this is the reason of selling. Instead of letting it sit in the garage I've decided to sell it at low price.
I can ship the car to you, also I can be responsible for the transport cost and you'll pay after inspection. The car looks and runs fantastic! Within 19 days you will get the car and you will have a period of 2 days to inspect the car and when the inspection period ends, if everything is fine you can make the payment.
CLEAN TITLE IN HAND, NO LIENS OR ISSUES!

PLEASE SEND ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER SO WE CAN TALK ALL DETAILS OVER THE PHONE.

I'm looking forward to hear from you soon.
Thank you,
Macienko Miroslaw Zbigniew
