F1 is very hybrid and I'm surprised more of F1's turbo tech hasn't spread to other markets. The ability to generate electricity from the turbo would allow all sorts of turbo engines to eliminate the wastegate altogether. If nothing else, Volvo Penta marine diesels are turbocharged for continuous running but have a supercharger just to eliminate turbo lag during throttle increases; using electricity to spin the turbo up would allow them to completely eliminate the cost and complexity of that supercharger.
