Issues closing the doors

Does anyone have problems closing the car doors? I've noticed that I have to constantly slam the doors to get them shut. Is this normal or should I have Tesla take a look? I've only had the car for about a week.

Seems to be fairly common. They probably could adjust the latch, but I would give it some time as the seals and hinges will break-in some and possibly have the issue go away.

Thank you for providing me with that information. I'll give it some time then as I didn't want to continue slamming the door and possibly damaging the hinges or locks.

This has been reported many times. Once broken in I’m sure it will be easier and you will still have a tight door seal.

I think it's pretty normal. Both the front and rear doors require a large amount of momentum to close.

Our delivery specialist told us the doors would be hard to close at first because the rubber seals on the doors were still so new.

Confirming what everyone is saying, the seals/rubbers just need some break-in period.

The exact same thing happened on our model s at first, now we don’t really have slam it too hard. I’m having to do the same thing our our model 3 now.

Same issue for me. Drivers door seems the worst. I find I am shutting it pretty hard and then notice later on the app that the door is still open. The gap at the top of the window is also larger when the door has not fully closed than on the S so this could be a real problem in the rain if you didn't notice.

I have to retrain myself because I try to be gentle with the Model S doors since I believe the retractable handles are sensitive to this. It's really hard telling my kids to slam the Model 3 car door after 5 years of constantly telling them the opposite with every other door in our life!

Yes, it does take a great deal of force to get the doors to close. Hopefully, the door seals will soften over time and will require less force to get the door to close.

Anyone notice and improvement. Seems to me the driver door strike and latch don’t quit line up.
I’m still giving it time but don’t think it’s getting better. Might have service check it out.

I noticed my passenger side front has issues closing as well. Drivers side is okay. I had another thread where I posted about my trunk being ridiculously a pain to close, as it wouldn't latch. Despite reading on this forum from others that it needs to break in, I knew there was something definitely wrong with it. My tail light eventually started to pop out of its socket, when I closed my trunk. Took it to the service center and they said the trunk was misaligned and the spacers were adjusted for the lights too. They fixed it and my trunk is closing much better without having to slam it super hard.

My humble advice is to just take it to the service center and have them check it out. Good luck to you and definitely share if you have a new discovery.

I also have (had) the issue (3 weeks old M3). I found that the door handles were sticking out when I was closing the door sometimes - so just sprayed some WD40 inside them - now they close easily so there are less door-close-repeats needed

With 8000 miles thus far and many door shut and opens. I am happy to report they have broken in nicely and still feel solid. I experienced similar tough closes on trunk and driver's door in first few months. Did nothing thinking time would work. It did.

5 months in, and it feels like doors are easier to close. It's possible it's all in my head and we're all just accustomed to using a bit more force. But it does feel like it's broken in a bit.
