I want to be a megalomaniac billionaire !! Not just any John Doe billionaire, but a megalomaniac one.
Sooooo....what's everyone's take on this? NCA is cars and NCM in storage, so does/will this affect in Tesla cars (Model 3 and beyond) now? Tesla hasn't stated what chemistry they will be using for the M3 yet........hmm.

The Slashdot Interview With Lithium-Ion Battery Inventor John B. Goodenough - Slashdot
Interesting interview. He thinks the new battery design can make it to market in 3 years.
A lot of people seem to agree that Solid State will be the holy grail. Samsung says they will bring the first phone to market with Solid State within 3 years.firstly, new battery design can make it to make in 3 years, is due to diversity of the market. there are solid state batteries on the market today with phenomenal properties, doesn't make them suitable for most applications.
2ndly, this is about glass electrolyte, so optimal for button or flat cells, not good for cylindrical.
3rdly, different technology paths were discussed in the review, covering a state of play, not just a single concept.
4thly, it appears to be holy grail - the solid electrolyte. If the temperature issue is solved, then the density improvement can be about a factor of 3X. Ie equivalent to going from the best NiMH 18650 to the best NCA 18650 cell.
Crappy video tells you almost nothing about the battery.Wow no new post in a long time. So here we go.
This time it is from MIT and it is for stationary storage and they they use the words, 'holy grail':
Forgive my ignorance, first post and new to this, but didn't Tesla already do this at a much larger scale in Australia to help out with brownouts....and somewhere else? How old was this video?Wow no new post in a long time. So here we go.

I think you are confusing two different products. The MIT video talks about a new type of battery using entirely new technology and not LiOn, that will be much cheaper and can be produced at mass scale. I am fairly certain this is not for automotive usage.Forgive my ignorance, first post and new to this, but didn't Tesla already do this at a much larger scale in Australia to help out with brownouts....and somewhere else?
