Next steps are deploying (moving slightly forward) each of the 18 hexagonal mirror segments, which takes several days. Then they will be fully aligned over the course of 4 months, during which time the scientific instruments will also be tested and calibrated.

Without a doubt...
Initially, I was pleased to hear the Ariene 5 efficency extended the JWST mission. Now that the numbers are in, JWST can stay on station for better than 20 years!
That is outstanding.
JWST is a robust build. Deployment has been close to flawless. I believe that JWST will itself last the 20 years. Brilliant job.

I'm 68, and I've been on the space exploration bandwagon since Shepherd in 1961. This is one of just a few select missions that shift the cliché paradigm. Apollo 11 and Hubble being in the mix.
The ESA launch was perfection, effectively doubling the science JWST will collect. The insane deployment stages were almost flawless.
We are set up for an amazing decade of discovery, and (my lifelong favorite thing as a progessive human) rewriting some long held beliefs.

I haven't seen any news about heat shields recently. But the Where is Webb? page has temperature data, so I assume if there were a problem with the heat shields we'd know about it by now.
In one of the webcasts, someone mentioned that the temperature reading is more or less consistent with their simulation. I assume the heat shields are OK.
