January/February Used Process

Hello everyone,
I thought I would update the forum with my Used/CPO experience. I have been planning to buy a Tesla for about 4 months now. Almost pulled the trigger on a Model 3 to take advantage of the tax credit last year but just could not justify the cost, and frankly design of the 3 (loved driving the AWD version though). I have loved the design of the Model S and wanted to buy an used one ( we have been a entirely EV household for a year now). After months of looking over the used prices ( both from Tesla and private dealers) decided on buying from Tesla, the 4 year warranty was the clincher. Given the horror stories I was ready to be disappointed by the process, but was willing to endure it. After looking at multiple options ( A shout-out to EV-CPO.com, could not have done this without that site), decided that the 70D with AP1 was the best suited for my needs and price sensitivity ( would have loved to buy the 85D but price was an issue). Finally found a 70D located in San Diego ( which seems to have the highest concentration of Tesla's) for a bit less than 42K ( about 32K miles on it). While I was tempted to go buy the car in San Diego and drive across to WA state ( where I reside), the distance was just a bit too much. Tesla had re-introduced the $2000 shipping fee just before I bought the car so the decision became easier (consequences not so much).
01/02- Put down the $2500 deposit for the car and put in details in Tesla account
01/03- Got contacted by Delivery Specialist W to confirm financing and shipping/registration details
01/04- Delivery specialist confirms trade-in offer ( good enough for me to take it, especially with the sales tax break)
01/08- Got a text message from a different delivery specialist J saying he will be assisting with the WA state end of things and pickup details. After multiple messages back and forth we determine that the car can be picked up on January 16 at 10:30 AM in Seattle. I spend the next week lining up financing, changing insurance and lining up all my other ducks...
01/15 5PM get a voicemail from my original specialist W saying that J was never supposed to be involved with the process and my Tesla has actually not shipped!!! What??? I had the cashier's check in my pocket as I listen to the message. And then starts the run around.....
01/16- W apologizes for the mix up and promises to fix things, ask him what is the status of shipping, he says that the shipping company has promised delivery within 5-7 business days. Offers 2 years free service.....
01/18- Begin to question the process now, ask W if the car has actually shipped, he says that he would be able to confirm only after the long weekend
01/22- Send multiple emails to W, has the car shipped, the payoff amount for my trade-in car has changed, next payment is due and I have already paid for new insurance. W cannot confirm if the car has shipped....
01/23- Send email to W and his supervisor saying that I am ready to cancel the order if they cannot confirm shipping. Have multiple conversations with W. Actually start looking at the MR Model 3 and ask for inventory options.
01/25 W finally confirms that the Tesla was picked up on 23rd and will be delivered in 5-7 days. perhaps by January 29, depending on weather....
01/29- W confirms that the car is close to Seattle and pickup appointment on February 1 at 10:00 AM. We update payoff amount, change in trade-in credit and new total amount.
01/30- W sends Purchase Agreement, everything looks good
01/31- Bellevue Center confirms pickup
02/01- Get to the Bellevue Center....it's there. Smooth transaction, the car is in really great shape, no surprises at all!! The Delivery Manager walks me through everything, 30 mins and we are out of there.......I am a Tesla Owner

I've had my CPO cat delivered last week (this one is my 2nd tesla) and I am extremely happy with my used 2016 90D.

However, I really think that Tesla needs to work on communication. Sometimes it feels as if no one knows what is happening and then suddenly they call you and say "Hi your car is ready when are you coming to pick up?".

And this is really the only important part and I am so happy for you that they delivered to you a car in great shape that is not damaged.

I'll give you a day and you will forget what an ordeal it was. Enjoy your car!

I placed my order on 2/3 for a 70D located in the Midwest, shipping to WA state. I'm actually in no rush for the car to arrive, do not have a trade in, and actually haven't completed all the steps on my end either. Reps seem pretty prompt and I've had follow up emails for questions I haven't responded to yet.

Not expecting the car to arrive before mid March, anything before that will surprise me, based on the feedback from other buyers here.
