It’s definitely not going to happen now, and it’s going to take a long time even when the technology is fully mature, but I don’t see any way for human controls to survive(on public roads) long term. Even reading that article, it sounds like his reasons for thinking it won’t happen are pure wishful thinking on his part.

When one remembers that human drivers cause 40,000 accidents per year and that self driving cars "should be" four times safer than human drivers, all this hoo hah about an accident of a self driving car seems ridiculous. Accidents happen. Still. Banning self driving cars will just mean there will be more accidents. Allowing self driving cars means there will be fewer accidents. Not zero accidents. I cannot believe that self driving cars will be banned, even though government does not have a great track record making intelligent decisions.

Not sure if you missed it, but this is actually in reference to banning *human* drivers.

No, I saw that, but since it seemed that somehow that wouldn't pass, I took the other side. You know they'll never ban human drivers.

I recall a guy who converted a car so he could drive while under the hood, so it looked like no driver. Also several of driving from back seat (at 6'4" I'm almost there). Can't find any pictures.
