Pretty negative article just published in the WSJ. Elon Musk’s SpaceX Delays Plans for First Space Tourists to Circle Moon

Some quotes:

“SpaceX has indicated it won’t launch a pair of space tourists to loop around the moon this year as previously announced, the latest sign that technical and production challenges are disrupting founder Elon Musk’s plans for human exploration of the solar system.

A new timetable for the flight—now postponed until at least mid-2019 and likely longer—hasn’t been released by Space Exploration Technologies Corp., the formal name of the closely held company.”

“The delay comes amid SpaceX’s own projections of a nearly 40% drop in launches next year from as many as 28 anticipated for 2018. The decline primarily reflects a global slump in manufacturing orders and launch contracts for large commercial satellites.

SpaceX also is confronting industry doubts about market demand for its Falcon Heavy rocket, the company’s newest and biggest launcher, which had its maiden blastoff in March. “People don’t think it’s serious enough yet to figure out how to use it,” Thomas Mueller, SpaceX’s chief propulsion technology officer, said in May, speaking to attendees on the sidelines of a space conference in Los Angeles. Mr. Mueller declined to elaborate or respond to questions.“

Where/when did Elon make any statement recently about the Moon tourist flight? I am not aware of that.

As to the drop off in sat launches next year, Gywnne has mentioned it and I don’t think it’s a big deal.

And we all know the FH isn’t going to be used that often. So what?

The article appears to be firewalled. Googled 'WSJ SpaceX Delays' to view this piece of trash. Where's all the news fit to print? The author, Andy Pasztor, could be a top contender for Elon's proposed Pravda rating system. Just a bit of research by this guy would have uncovered what most everyone here already knows. Months ago Musk stated that SpaceX would not pursue human rating the FH. The exception might be if NASA wanted it and would also incur the expense. End of story for the space tourist lunar loop.

Andy Pasztor has written a number of SpaceX hit pieces including the big one that implied that SpaceX flubbed the Zuma launch. Apparently he has "inside sources" at Boeing, Lockheed, ULA, or Northrup Grumman that like to bias his articles against SpaceX. He never overtly makes an accusation just spins things to appear negative. Actually having facts is not what this guy is about.

Boeing, Lockheed and ULA all have significant ad budgets. Can you say “protection racket”?
