Well, took delivery of my MS-60 this last saturday. At the delivery I was informed that my car did not have the autopilot installed....huh? I tried it out on test drive and checked the box on the orderform, next i find out that auto headlight feature is a "future upgrade" as well...huh....they were sure able to take my money for the autopilot. wondering if this is even legal...

Does your car have the new autopilot hardware (8 cameras, including those in turn signal repeaters, b-pillars)?

Tesla DID learn from previous mistakes.

During release of AP1.0, they had on their website listed that the car had autosteering and auto parking. Not that auto steering and auto parking would be provided with an OTA update, that it can do it NOW. Lots of pissed off people. Tons of threads on TMC.

We get to AP2.0, Tesla did put a disclaimer. "Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot Software is expected to complete validation and be rolled out to you via an over-the-air-update in December 2016, subject to regulatory approval"

It's right on teslamotors.com when you select the Autopilot option. Yes, they could have been more clear "YOU PAY NOW, BUT YOU GET NOTHING NOW", but I think they met their legal obligation.

This was mentioned as part of the AP2.0 rollout. When did you order?

The info for autopilot on the webpage has said the following since the AP2.0 announcement.

Enhanced Autopilot software is expected to complete validation and be rolled out to your car via an over-the-air update in December 2016, subject to regulatory approval.

Those that ordered before were contacted to see if they wanted to upgrade from AP to EAP.

If you ordered before AP 2.0 was announced, you should've received an email and/or a phone call offering to upgrade you to Enhanced Autopilot. As others mentioned above, there was language to indicate the functionality probably wouldn't be available until December. Hopefully most AP1 functionality will be enabled in the coming weeks...and Enhanced Autopilot in the coming months.

Another buyer picked his new S up a few days ago and it had no cruise control functionality enabled. They've already released a firmware update which enabled it for him.

It's par for the Tesla course. I was one of the first to order the P85D when it was introduced and ordered the next generation seats. My car was delivered with the old seats. At delivery the specialist insisted the seats were the next gen, then afterwards we were told that they were not and it took months for the seats we paid for to be installed. Of course, we paid for the seats at delivery, so Tesla sat on our money while we sat on the inferior seats.

Except this time, it was clear on the website that they wouldn't get autopilot function, and that it would be enabled sometime in December, assuming regulatory approval. The nextgen seat thing was a bad mess up. This, not so much. They are pretty clear about it, and spell it out on the website.

Your cruise control shouldn't work right now either.

They have already released a firmware update that enabled classic CC. (But still no TACC.)

According to Elon it will be ~3 weeks before 8.1 is released and people should start to see AP work on AP 2.0 hardware. (Though he didn't say what AP features.)

You have been around long enough to know Elon is a little bit iffy with both the deadlines and the facts. The subject to regulatory approval is a good and important disclaimer. Especially for FSDC features.

I don't think that AP 2.0 hardware with AP 1.0 functionality would need new regulatory approval..

Maybe AP 2.0 was not yet released when he ordered?

I'm sure the person doing the calls was lost in all the happy excitementfrom people getting new hardware. Still a bummer for a few weeks. If they would have emphasized lack of functionality short term, they could have sold more ap1.0 hardware.

As for regulatory approval, not surprised at all. Just because it does the same, it's a totally different system.
