I'd say more like 2 years.

If he reserved early, sure... but that's not the case. 3 years is definitely more likely.

I'm hoping to get mine for Q3 2018. Trying to be realistic, with 100k units shipped by the end of 2017, and the current <300k other reservations shipped by the end of Q3 2018

That seems like the absolute best case scenario. Not exactly "realistic"

500k per year was the target by the end of 2017 (I may be wrong!), so with the first 100k out of the way by end of Q4 2017, they have the potential to have cleared another 375,000 off the books by the end of Q3 2018, which is about 100,000 more than currently reserved.

Here's to hoping!!! :)

Presuming you mistyped the first year and intended 2018, yes, that's my understanding too, assuming all goes as planned.

Hoping is good, but deliveries are expected to start at that time, so that kind of volume at that time would be somewhat unrealistic. Anyway, I'd rather they take a delay or so it slowly and make sure they don't screw up first deliveries. It is critical for Tesla to get the delivery of this car right.

I ordered mine April 1st, swung by into Edinburgh Tesla and the chap in there didn't seem to know too much on expectation of delivery times for model 3 other than back end of 2018 if we're lucky!!

Let's be optimistic: ramp*** to 10,000 cars per week by year-end 2018, having worked up to 1,000 cars per week by early 2018.

That allows domestic employee/employee family deliveries* in Q4 2017, and a mix of the rest of the domestic employee cars along with the first CA owners' cars** in Q1 2018.

*Domestic employee orders swagged at 7,500.

**CA owners' reservations swagged at 3% of 400,000 so 12,000.

*** ramp swag (attained by eoq):
2018Q1 1K/wk (Model 3)
2018Q2 2K/wk (Model 3)
2018Q3 4K/wk (Model 3)
2018Q4 10K/wk (total production)

---
All of which means you may see your car in Q3-Q4 2019.
