Just received my P3D, can anyone assess if I should bring the car back?

I'm very excited to receive my P3D today. The delivery specialist couldn't stick around for long enough for me to thoroughly inspect the car, but he had assured me that if I found any issue within 72 hours just let them know. So after he has left, I found following issues:

Paint imperfections:
Model 3 paint issue 5.4.2019

Trim installation imperfections:
Tesla model 3 5.4.2019

Can anyone help me decide if these issue should be addressed by Tesla? Also I still have some time to do more detailed inspection, please let me know what I need to focus on and what may be overlooked. Thank you all.

BTW the paint quality of Tesla is just like everyone said, I found too many dust specks under the paint around the door sill area. MCR is the most expensive paint option Tesla offers and I still find many spider web marks around the car.

Welcome.

Never let Tesla rush you to accept delivery of a car before you thoroughly inspect it and determine you are happy with the condition. And never pay Tesla before you inspect the car.

With that being said, you should make a list of things you are not satisfied with and immediately put it in writing and ask for a written confirmation that they will fix these issues at no charge. If they are unwilling to do this you will have to decide if you want to keep the car or return it (which is a major hassle since it takes up to 60 days to get your money back). The issues sound pretty minor so I think you will probably be fine but definitely get everything in writing from Tesla. Delivery advisors will say anything they can to finish the transaction and move on to their next delivery.

The only thing that really bothers me is that window trim. The little paint blip will chip off, but who doesn't have a scratch on their new car within the first month? It hurts, but where I live it can't be avoided.

Not sure how I'd react to receiving your car, but I'd probably complain and get it fixed, with a loaner during repairs.

Thanks for the inputs, I wanted the pick up from the factory option but it is no longer available as I was told before the delivery was scheduled. When the delivery specialist was here I did find some cosmetic issue and was fixed by him. But he was only here till his uber shows up which was about 15 min. I think Tesla is really pushing it's user experience with everything online model. I swear that I have never bough something so expensive without even looking at the real thing first.

BTW my car has manufacturer date of 05/19, I think even with all my nickpicking the car has much fewer flaws than some of the earlier production models. I wish Tesla will eventually address all of its quality issues but it takes time.

Yeah, I only had 15 min, which is not enough time to check every inch of the car. I think Tesla should bring back the pick up option since they suffer from quality issues.

I personally like the car is being delivered to my home like how you order items on amazon but still, you don't order something this expensive and expect it to be perfect delivered

Are all those paint defects inside door jams etc. it was hard to tell on some. If they all inside jams etc., honestly, I think that’s being nit picky and I’ve seen that with many brand cars.

But most, if not all, of those trim issues should definitely be fixed. I certainly wouldn’t return the car if that’s what your asking.

I had similar issues like these (paint nibs, chips, seal issues): Tesla fixed them all with the help of the local approved body shop.

Get the paint chips fixed for sure, you don't want that developing rust long term. Nibs are an easy fix while the car is in for the paint chip, but again, these are body shop fixes. Tesla Techs can fix/replace the front seals.

I took home delivery as well and my delivery guy gave me as much time as I needed. Don't let them rush you!

Regarding the defects, it's important to document them on a due bill. I'd let them fix the door trim and the spoiler, and perhaps ask for a free paint repair kit so you can touch up the little chips in the door sills yourself (I'd be concerned that they'd send it to a body shop and make it worse if you let them do it). But if there are no other paint defects, that's actually pretty good for a Tesla. ;)

You should be fine with getting Tesla to take care of the problems. We have a red model 3 also. We had a scratch in the doorjamb and a speck of dust in the paint on the front bumper. Tesla had a body shop fix them. The only problem was they didn't do such a good job and they had to send it back. It was much better when we got the car back the 2nd time.

Today is my 4th day as a tesla model 3 owner and my GPS is stuck as I was driving on 101... Tried to do a soft reboot and didn't seem to help.

I have found some people try to do hard reboot as car is parked so I'm going to try that. But there are also people out there reporting that this may be related to faulty components...

Come on little 3, Give me some faith in you!

Drive the car in reverse and then soft reboot. 90% of the time, Works every time

It's a shame they delivered it like that, those aren't tiny issues. That sad, I don't think it would be worth the hassle to return it. Get the issues in writing with the threat of returning it if needed.

I had no paint or trim issues when I received mine back in August, but there was a scratch on the steering wheel. They replaced it no problem a few weeks later.

Regarding your GPS locking up, unfortunately the last few updates have been a little buggy. That isn't something I'd be worried about long term and is unlikely to be a hardware issue.

Tried soft reboot, tried shutting down the power from center console, tried drive in reverse then reboot...

So far no luck, I can't seem to reach anyone at Tesla either.

I tried to see if I can chat with anyone in Tesla but the chat button on the support is grayed out for me.

I have been on the phone waiting for 30 min but no luck so far.

Can I get some support? I mean what do you suppose to do when you have some issue with you car? Just pray?

Well, have you considered just returning it? You are still within the 7 day period. I returned my SR+ for touchscreen malfunction on day 7.

Just an update, I was finally able to get a hold of someone at tesla service and this is how you fix the GPS stuck problem:
  1. Make sure your car is in a location where you can get good GPS reception, close all doors.
  2. From your touchscreen, shut down the power
  3. Don't touch anything, including the door and the brake paddle, for 3 min
  4. Start the car, drive around for a bit, until you see the GPS on the screen has been updated to the correct location.
It is very important to drive around after you have restarted the car, because it needs to re-calibrate the GPS location and until this is done the touchscreen would not update.

For now I'm keeping the car since it was partly my fault to not recognizing the fact that GPS needs to be re-calibrated and the only way to do that is by driving around.

Thanks for the report. I get my car Saturday. Good to know about this.
