Just saw a VIN on app, pick up location is OC, CA - question about build location

I just came across the VIN shows up on my app profile. Using the VIN decoder and found out it is a 2023 Austin TX build.

I thought as I am taking the delivery in OC, CA, MYLR would be built from Fremont. Is it typical that west coast customers get the Austin build?

Mine is coming from Austin as well. Probably just based on the configs each factory is making at different times and matching it to your order, but I’m just guessing as I don’t really know how they do it.

MYLR white exterior with black interior and a tow hitch. I think I’m picking it up in Carlsbad but I don’t have a delivery appointment yet.

I have not received a text regarding VIN is issued like I got for M3RWD.

I don't think there's consistency to the workflow, honestly. If you have a VIN showing on your app, that's likely better than getting the text. Example, I got a text to schedule a delivery but it goes to a link that says "Delivery selection not available at this time". Overnight, it auto selected a delivery date and time. Delivery type set to home delivery without me being able to make changes.

Took delivery of my MYLR today in Los Angeles. It is an Austin build.

And it gets weirder. I'm in Chicago, and my VIN came yesterday and it is a Freemont, built Nov. 20th. They're wasting a lot of resources cross shipping these things to the wrong side of the continent, aren't they?
