Key fob dead battery

New owner, still learning . . .

The advice with a dead key fob is to place it "near passenger side wiper". I understand it should communicate using NFC technology.

I have tried all over the windscreen base and can't get any response. In a UK spec car, should it be the nearside or offside?

There is talk on some forums that it takes 20+ seconds to respond - is that true?
