Lake District Charging

The wife and I are thinking of an impromptu weekend in the lake district next weekend but looking at charging it looks like a barren spot. Tebay for the supercharger and a few podpoints around.

Does anyone have any fast charging recommendations, of even a nice hotel with destination charging that they can recommend?

Another Place at Ullswater has a Tesla Destination Charger. Nice hotel if you are interested in activities as well as walking and driving through some spectacular scenery.

Yup, that's what I always do, but I was asking for some local knowledge or experience as sometimes the internet is wrong

I was at the South Lakes three weeks ago, and used the InstaVolts in the various Booths’ supermarket car-parks.

It was pay-to-park, but the parking meters provided a voucher for a discount in store matching the cost of the first hour.

Not quite the Lakes but there are 50kW Instavolt chargers at the Booths in Kirkby Lonsdale. My Mum uses them when she needs to charge her car more quickly.

If you like fine dining, the the Gilpin Hotel has 2 x 22kw chargers and another older type-2 charger

We used the chargers in Wasdale Head last year, and they worked, but tripped occasionally (and I needed to reinitiate the charging process). +1 for Zap Map, and also Electric Juice if you haven't tried it.

Public fast charger at Ambleside, south of the village centre.

However if you’re coming there from M6 it’s worth charging at Tebay on your way there, then use the car, charge overnight if your hotel has the connection, then top up at Tebay to get home.

Another vote for Booths/instavolt - don't go over the car park time limit, use it as an excuse to wander nearby, grab some food from cafe or essentials. Note the 2 near Windermere that must be close together. The ones I saw had 4 spaces per site, but can't remember too well. Not too busy, but used a fair amount. From memory/reputation, bit slow, bit expensive but reliable.

Just a quick update. Stayed at the Glenridding Hotel and they had a 11KW Zappi and no other electric car guests.... Nice to top off every night.

Couldn’t get more than 27kW out of the Instavolt chargers at Windermere, disappointingly…
A Taycan next to me was greeting the same, which I found interesting. I was expecting the 800V pack to be able to pull more juice…
