Las Vegas Self Carwash

I ended up with a door handle issue on my 2018 S after using one of the drive thru car washes at a Terrible's gas station. It resolved a few days later (I think after the water ingress dried out), but it wasn't an experience I want to repeat or take my chances with.

On the other hand, I've had no issues with the large Terrible's car wash on Flamingo and Arville. It's a drive-thru, but it's much bigger. You get out of the car and they drive it through for you. Kind of a weird set up, but the reason it's like that is because pre-pandemic, they would also dry off your car and tires, and even clean up the insides of your car a little. Unfortunately, last time I was there, they said they were having trouble re-hiring employees after the pandemic and no longer do the after-wash treatment. I hope they get enough employees and resume that though, because that was an amazing car wash. I would get the deluxe and it cost like $30+tip but it was worth every penny. Those guys would even clean the insides of your windows and windshield.

Thanks. I had to cut my trip short and return to SF yesterday after catching Covid on day 3 of my 9-day visit. The Wynn disabled my room key and I couldn't leave my room. 2 days for me to feel better and drove back yesterday.

Bummer about the trip but it happens to the best of us. I just got back from a road trip where I caught COVID halfway through lol.

Tell me more about the Wynn situation. They disabled your room key because you had Covid?!?

I felt symptoms and the next day I had a full blown fever and chills. I had an antigen test kit with me and tested positive. I called the front desk the next day and they asked me to stay in my room until a manager calls me. The hotel manager calls me along with a contact tracer who asked me 20 questions about when I got symptoms, where I went, who did I come in contact with, etc. They told me hat I have to stay in my room and that my room key has been disabled. So I can technically leave, but won’t be able to get back inside. I had 5 more nights left to my stay and I asked them for an early checkout, but wasn’t feeling well enough to drive back to SF. So I stayed an extra day and ate using in-room dining. They basically flagged my room as contactless, so they left the food in a trolly outside for me to roll into my room. No dishes or silverware and everything was served in plastic containers and disposables. The manager told me that when I’m well enough to check out to give them a call 30m before so that they can escort me. The day of my checkout, it was a 15 minute wait when 3 security personnel came to escort me out. They were very nice and chatty, with masks on of course. They held an elevator just for me so that I don’t come in contact with other guests. Right after I left the elevator, they proceeded to disinfect and spray it down. They walked me out to the self-parking garage to make sure I left the premises. It’s their health and safety protocol and I completely understand and appreciate. They didn’t want infected guests walking around or even have the opportunity to gamble knowing that they are infected. Disabling your key is to incentivize you to not leave your room but you are not locked in (fire and safety hazard).

I did the responsible thing of self-reporting, when I know that most guests and patrons coming to Vegas would just say F’it, nothing is going to ruin my weekend with the boys. The day I left is the day where 5 other friends flew in. I was really disappointed, but didn’t want to ruin their birthday celebration weekend and did the right thing by leaving early.

They Wynn hotel was understanding and refunded me the remaining 3 nights on a non-refundable pre-paid rate. I have stayed at many hotels on the strip but I will now only stay at the Wynn given their service and having protocols. Not to mention their rooms are also very nice and highly automated. Amazon Alexa controlled every aspect of the room and their standard room is bigger than any other hotel. Self-parking is free and safe with security that patrols every 30 minutes on their bike.

Interesting experience. I have to admit I would not have self-reported, for fear of whatever limitations they might place. Seems like there's no upside and you are free to self-isolate anyway. The only safety advantage I can see is using the cargo elevator when you left, so I guess you could self-isolate and then let them know before you left so you could get that elevator and then they could handle your room differently. Single use plates and utensils probably don't matter much and even then, there's no rule against stacking plates in your room during your isolation and letting them sanitize how they want when you leave.

I'm surprised they even escorted you to check out. I can't imagine how they couldn't have been done over the phone.

I'm sure many in Vegas do not self-report because they prioritize on themselves having a good time. Most people will not quarantine and continue to leave their room to get food and do every day things. I self reported because I didn't want to quarantine in the room for who knows how many days as it is very depressing to be sick and you see all the fun outside. I was able to get a refund on the remaining nights and I wouldn't have been able to had I simply checked out early as my rates were non-refundable pre-paid.
