Firstly i’d like to say hello, i’ve just bailed
out of ICE completely for both my wife and me, a model Y std range and m3p

I felt like i’d sold my soul coming out of an
x2 m35i and Cayman GTS 4.0. But we love the teslas, it’s like re learning everything all over again. Can’t stop buying accessories so do need therapy but really pleased to join what is the next chapter in the automotive journey

I understand your view but I will not be able to go back to ICE cars anymore :)
Couldn’t agree more. I know everyone’s needs / desires differ, but I feel the same. I was a Beemer man for years, and loved them. Had a few Mercedes too. Loved the sound, rowing my own gears and all that. Got over it real quick with the Performance 3, and then got the Y for my wife last year. No looking back for me. Everyone’s MMV!!!

Some great advice in here, especially the one about bearing gifts, so much plastic stuff on youtube !

I have already splashed out a little on ceramic and screen protector but holding of on the rubber mats!

Interesting comments on the loss of the GTS, all i can say is don’t get sucked into all the hype, having driven one for 18 months it definitely has lots of virtues but also isn’t the cigar

I tried the same, and went back.
TM3P is now my wife's car.
The car definitely has its merits and is the best-handling Tesla in the lineup, but it is no cigar.
I dont think the model 3 is a better car than the M3, for sure. With that being said, for "me" and where I am in my life right now, its a better car for what I want out of a car.

It definitely has faults but I am pretty happy commuting to work and back in it, which is like 80-90% of what I need a car for.

I get why you would say that though, as one "BMW" person to another. I keep hoping that BMW will put out a EV that I would be happy buying (my biggest issues are the price of what they are offering, TBH) , since I love the EV lifestyle at this point.

In any case, I get it, and dont subscribe to the disdain that some here have for BMWs (or frankly, other ICE vehicles too).

Anyway, for the OP,

The reason I said "thats quite the switch" is because I think if I had a caymen GTS I would have held onto it too (lol). I think Teslas and specifically the model 3 and Y are the "best commuter cars in the world" which is what a lot of people are doing in a car (commuting to work, running errands etc), but I definitely think there is room for cars driven just to have fun, and most porsche vehicles fall into that category for me.

Not trying to turn this into that kind of debate though, just really wanted @afadeev to know there was at least one person out there that isnt going to "poo poo" that choice, even if it isnt currently the right one for me personally.

I was one of those anti EV folks and held onto my beliefs about weight, handling and feeling but the thing is once you sample it with an open mind you realise that a lot that that was my own fear of change.

Not adopting what EVs can offer is very limiting, it’s fulfilling use cases i never knew i had but this definitely isn’t an ICE vs EV post, i love both but just exploring EV for the first time so excuse my enthusiasm

My wife and I ditched our 40mpg+ 2018 Civics for a Tesla Model 3 back in 2022 to go full EV. We were not shy about using it - took it to the Salton Sea, drove it a lot - for work commutes daily. And we only had access to level 1 charging for the first two years (minus supercharging for trips) - and we loved it.

I know someone with a BMW M3 & M5, a Porsche, and a Mercedes Benz - and one of their favorite daily driver is a Tesla M3P lol. I absolutely love going on road trips when I’m invited.

Getting access to Lvl 2 charging was eye opening for us. Loved it so much we got a 2024 M3 :).

Not expecting any change but would be curious to hear your opinion again over time after the honeymoon period is over. :D

Yes defo i’m in a honeymoon period where she can’t do wrong. Will keep up the posts as i discover a whole new chapter in motoring.

So far, she feels solid, dances through the bends very well, more composed than the GTS at 7/10s with slightly more compliant ride. Performance wise the GTS would be embarrassed all the way to 100. Looks wise well the 718 platform is a looker, probably won’t be doing the look back that i did for 18 months with the little porsche

Dislikes, silly really but i’d have liked the opportunity to have silver alloys, never really been a fan of black holes…..

Although the build is way better than YT would have you believe a few things niggle a little, lower quality carpets and not quite the same bank vault thunk when the doors ahut

But really quite on a par with beemers and audis these days

Plus, just love the tech and buying into a company that has shaken up the norms and led the car industry. My purchase isn’t environmentally driven, an assumption most people seem to make, i’m a “petrol head” through and through and bought into tesla for that reason
