Okay, so I know model S & X use 18650's instead of the latest greatest 2170's in the 3 which don't allow the pack to charge as quickly as the 3's. But I thought I would relay my latest charge session at a close by SC pictorially speaking. Prior to the recent upgrade of V2 chargers to "up to 150 kWh" ability, the maximum I was able to achieve was 112 kWh. To me, this is a significant upgrade in charging ability and while it doesn't come close to matching the 3's abilities, I am happy nonetheless.

Is there a way to tell (preferably remotely) whether or not a given SC is v3?
Yes.
When you tap on the icon on the map, it will show the max kw, I would assume v3 would show something like 200 or 250kw
This one is more obvious but hadn't occurred to me yet.

I was thinking of being able to look at something to identify them physically, and yes there is a visual difference. It may sound a little counterintuitive, but the higher power version 3 stations have thinner, more flexible cables. They had to go with liquid cooled cables to get to that level of speed without too much heat buildup, but that did allow them to go with thinner cables.

Your pictures and the charge rate you get are absolutely amazing.

In Europe, 2019.20.x does not show the message about increased charging speed in the release notes, we've got different superchargers with different plugs and never got that increase in charge rate at low SoC.

What we both got is an earlier reduction of charging speed: prior to this update, a rate above 100kw was maintained quite a bit longer (112kW up to 52% and > 100kw up to 62%) .

I've included the information from your charge as the red line in the graph.

This should be directly comparable, these graphs are for a Model S P100D registered 6/2017, so a bit older but same battery pack.

Blue lines: last 5 charges before 2019.12.1. Yellow lines: charges since the 2019.20.1 update. red line: your Charge

As far as supercharging goes: sucks to be in Europe at the moment.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure that will change in the future. You'll notice that I started the charging session with 29% SOC. In the future, I will endeavor to start the charge nearer to 20% SOC to see if the rate will be even higher yet? I actually saw 144 kWh at startup, but I wasn't quick enough on the "camera trigger" to get that picture.

Started my session with 1 mile remaining:

Saw 128 kW briefly and as high as 412 mi/hr but couldn’t get the phone out to snap it quickly enough.

Still at the Supercharger in Carlisle, 15 minutes remaining until 80%.

Hmph!!!
With the latest software update my SuC SUCKS!
At 150 kW SuC my highest power is now 92kW. Prior to 2019.20.2.1 i was seeing 112kW.
At 72kW SuC I now get 67kW at the start.

Yes, in the MCU clicking on the station will show the higher charger rate. If it's higher than 150, it's a v3. Urban v2s show as 75, and regular v2s are either 120 or 150.

If you click the SuperCharger icon in the bottom right of the nav, it'll show all the stations within range, then you can quickly scroll through them all.

I think we have to acknowledge that there are a number of variables affecting super charger rates. Battery pack version, state of charge and temperature are some that matters in addition to the charger itself.

I hit 143kw today with my June s100D, starting at 10% after a 50 mile drive. It actually only started to charge at 60kw, but increased over the first 5 min to 143kw around 15% SOC. It stayed there for 5 min or so. The AC reved up in attempt to cool the battery and then the charge rate dropped steady to about 90kw before I disconnected at around 50%.

It seemed that the charge rate was thermally limited, as I have seen 100kw plus maintained to almost 60% in cooler weather. At the exact same charger.

Don’t let a variations in charge rate spooked you to think something is wrong. There is probably a good reason for it.

Better than my S60! I didn’t start from very low SOC (26%) but I couldn’t even pull the 72kW from an urban charger.
26% - 66kW
55% - 41kW
75% - 30kW
90% - 22kW

Fastest Super Charging yet!

outside temp 83 F, just drove about 45 minutes, software update done this morning (2019.24.4), SOC about 30%

Got up to 147 kW with a slower than usual taper. Three years old and this car keeps on getting better!
