From what I've seen the MS does not depreciate all that much and it's rate of depreciation sure seems a lot less than cars with similar values when new

Gap insurance will resolve the circumstance where an accident totals the car. There might be psychological pain if the car is sold while holding negative equity but financially the outcome would be no worse than neutral provided there's a rate of return greater than the loan cost.
