Either you're good at seeing things that aren't there, or the Model 3 locks up the brakes without slowing down one bit.

It sure looks like the ABS system is laying down a very even pattern of skidding to me...

Doesn't ABS stand for Anti LOCK Brake? Don't you need to LOCK up the brakes pretty severely in order to get the tires hot enough to smoke? I haven't tried it on my Model 3 yet, but any other vehicle I had would slow to a stop without making any smoke from the tires, if I mashed hard enough on the brake pedal to activate the ABS.

Crash was in China.

Videos of Chinese smashing their expensive cars are not hard to find. I'd challenge anyone to show an American smashing his Mercedes into a parked car intentionally.
I'm pretty sure that was Taiwan. While China considers Taiwan to be part of China, not everyone agrees.

ABS is on aircrafts as well. and the initial smoke comes off every time a plane lands also.

Taiwan != China. The crash was in Taiwan.

You realize the official name of the government of Taiwan is Republic of China right?

(and the "other" china explicitly claims its part of their own Peoples Republic of China)

I mean- it's complicated- but BOTH sides claim Taiwan IS China- just different versions of China.

Yes, we get that, I was born there, and have lived in both places, but I doubt the person making reference to China, was thinking of Taiwan, since he specifically mentioned videos of Chinese smashing their expensive cars. That happens in Mainland China, where people have been driving for far fewer years than in Taiwan.

Anti-lock brakes can cause smoke due to the fact that the wheels may actually lock (depending on the surface) for a fraction of a second before the computer can release pressure on brakes.

No, did not realize. However the guy is driving around with a bent car and crashes into a stationary truck. Something is up here.

Just speculating and thought of all the strange videos I'd seen of people not caring about their cars in China. People could just laugh at the videos instead of trying to "disagree", but if its not in China that theory doesn't work obviously.

Main point of my post was to highlight the damage that is visible to the car. Save some people the trouble of looking it up themselves.

It sure does look like the front of the car is already impact damaged. At first it looks like a shadow, but as it gets closer, you see a giant dent on the right (right of the photo) side bumper and a bulge in the hood and left bumper.

Yep, in the replay in that video you can see the pulsing of the anti-lock brakes.

Not according to the actual article:

Watch a Tesla Model 3 drive into a flipped truck on a Taiwan highway

"The police said that the driver of the Tesla electric vehicle, Huang, claimed to have the vehicle assist system turned on, and the speed was fixed at 110 kilometers per hour," the article says. "He thought that the car itself would detect the obstacle and automatically brake, but he was surprised that the car did not slow down."

Yeah, maybe, but confirmed, it's not the brakes locking up in this case: Watch a Tesla Model 3 drive into a flipped truck on a Taiwan highway

Neither of those articles say that the driver didn't brake, just that the car didn't for him. In fact this one says that he said he did slam the brakes on: 特斯拉國道直撞翻覆貨車 駕駛誤認會自動煞車[影] | 社會 | 中央社 CNA

Police said that The Tesla electric car Huang surnamed driver claimed to have turned on the vehicle auxiliary system, speed at 110 kilometers per hour, the car itself will detect the obstacle will automatically brake, but he was surprised that the car did not slow down, immediately stepped on the brakes, but it was too late, directly into the truck compartment.

The one thing these guys who blew up the images (thanks, guys) have shown, is, given the resolution, there’s *plenty* of room for creative, by which I mean digital, interpretation.
