Vagueness:
LEXUS - LS600hL Hybrid Luxury Sedan
...a newly designed, large-capacity battery pack...
...The hybrid system in the LS600hL uses a 288-volt DC Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) compact battery pack installed behind the rear seat....
...The battery's power is directed through a 'boost converter' that efficiently raises voltage to a maximum 650V DC. An inverter changes this to AC, providing it elevated power to a 165-kW electric motor Lexus engineers devised a higher output inverter that both increases output by 10 percent and makes it compact in size and weight for easy mounting in the engine compartment...

This document describes some details (and similarities) of the Highlander pack:

...288V NiMH 6.5 Ah {~1.8kWh} Inverter -> 650V...

Aren't they still limited by the Chevron/Texaco/Ovonic/Cobasys patents so all of their vehicles will use small capacity packs? There is a size/weight/cost issue too, so it seems to me that they would wait for Li-Ion before doing any meaningful plug-in capability.
