Yes, the "the" in front of freeway names is a West Coast thing. We like our articles. Everyone knows you take "the 405" south to get from LA to San Diego.

Is that the case in Quebec, too? I keep hearing how folks in that province periodically like to distinguish themselves from other Canadians.

In Quebec they "le", "la", and "l'" all kinds of street names.

Apple certainly caused a stir with their creative grammar during the "Think different" campaign. I'm actually more forgiving of that isolated incident than referring to every product without an article. Hey, we're speaking in English here, not French (aucune infraction vise).

To be clear, my original comment referred to national television ads for American car companies. It's difficult to tell which ads are local and which are national, but I got the impression that the troublesome grammar was not a regional phenomenon.
