Light Harmonic Amp & Customer Service discussion

I agree I still haven't received my refund and this is 3 months outstanding.
What worst is I've never received the goods, they took my money and still have it!!!!

I strongly suggest you dispute this through your credit card company. LH must show shipping info to prove they sent the goods. When they cannot produce that shipping info, you will likely get your refund.

I sent in a request for a status update on the amp I sent back to them almost a month ago. I haven't heard anything from them in over two weeks and no response to my message.

If you still haven't heard anything, dispute the original charge through your credit card company. Include the shipping and tracking info to show you returned product. If your communications are in writing (email), also include those to demonstrate you have followed up and LH has failed to respond. Good luck.

If enough people start the credit card chargeback process Light Harmonic's card processor may raise their cc processing rates, or, if the situation becomes bad enough, prevent them from accepting credit cards entirely. The banks and card processors do not like this kind of behavior from the merchants they work with.

Is there an update on where LH is for their Tesla product line? Anyone know if they are still working on it? I am interested in the speaker upgrade for the standard sound system.

To the best of my knowledge, LH has door speakers available for standard audio but not a subwoofer. I've not heard anyone complain about the LH door speakers. Problems seem to be concentrated on their amp which would not apply to you.

Long history of customer service and communication issues, however. Two vendor controlled threads with long histories were removed by LH. Draw your own conclusion. Caveat Emptor.

Yes, I sorta know the history and the two threads deletion. Makes you wonder how long the company will last if they could not deliver products. The door speakers are marked as pre-order and apparently not shipping at the moment. The subwoofer package will include an amp, which I suspect will be subject to similar quality issues as the ones with the premium amp. Overall, not convinced I should "pre-order".

I ping them every two weeks, specifically Larry Ho, about my amp that they've had for like 3 months now and he keeps saying it will be "soon." Right now, last I hears was "end of the month." I'm not holding my breath.

With regards to the speakers, I don't think they add a lot to the sound in the car. There are so many other speakers that provide the sound that you really need to upgrade the other 12 speakers to make an appreciable dent in sound performance inside the car. That said, I'm sure others will disagree and that they feel they are a spectacular upgrade. Personally, I don't hear it between my 2012 with stock UFHS and my 2015 with LH speakers.... sound exactly the same to me.

The new EQ settings have done far more for sound "fixing" than the speakers ever did.

I totally agree. The only true sonic difference is the amp. (When it works) I'm lucky in that way.

I was promised my fourth amp would ship February 1. Never happened. Haven't heard from LH since February 6. Since I disputed their charges, I understand why they would have written me off. But they aren't talking to others as well. I know of others who are also waiting for replacement amps, so you aren't alone.

I have had multiple disputes with LH through AmEx. So far, I have received about 2/3 refund with the other 1/3 still in dispute. Frankly, given history, I cannot imagine why anyone why buy into that product now, especially the amp.

Slightly off topic, I spoke with Reus. Totally different approach. They swap front speakers and sub. Don't touch the door speakers. One person I spoke at length with has both Reus and LH. He said Reus works as they advertise. He has same problem with LH as I do. Reus may be expensive but I've yet to read anything negative about their product.

I also spoke with a high end local car audio shop. They were talking about adding a DSP/amp to replace the LH amp. They were supposed to send a proposal. Haven't heard back from them.

Car audio guys seem to be typically pretty shady and/or unreliable. When you find a good place, it's like finding a four leaf clover. We have a local place called KC Trends... the tire/wheel guy is fantastic. He gets his stuff done when he says he will and it's done right the first time usually. I've been screwed by the audio side of that place multiple times now... so many people around here swear by them and I can't figure out why. They are unreliable and never get things done properly/on time. The problem is, every other place I've been to is either worse or no better.

I wouldn't mind a Reus system, but yeah they are super expensive. I really would like to hear one side by side with a UHFS before I sunk the $$ into it, especially since I'm in Kansas.

We have a local car audio place that has won numerous awards, considered one of the best in the US. I went to visit with them and was very impressed with their work and philosophy. But I visited on February 14 and still have yet to receive a follow up. Sure, I could call them but, if they want my business, they need to be more responsive. Otherwise, it would be like LH reincarnated.

The thing about Reus is not just the cost. It is that they are following a different philosophy than what I'd hoped. I agree upgrading the front pillar speakers could improve imaging and their subwoofer package could greatly improve bass. But I live with a 1/4" thick rubber mat in my hatch which is there to facilitate keeping the car clean while transporting a wheelchair. Putting a sub under that mat just cannot sound good. So I prefer the NVX, particularly for its location, but the audio store and Reus seem to consider NVX less than ideal. Yet for my 57 year old ears, the NVX works just fine. So there is a disconnect between the offerings and what I want.

Not sure what I will do. Still evaluating options.

June 15: Payment made. Shipment to follow immediately. Speakers subsequently arrived without amplifier. Amplifier arrived June 30.

July 30: System installed w/o LH sub. NVX sub installed instead.

September 3: LH sub delivered to LH. Multiple follow up emails. No refund. Opened dispute with Amex. Refund received September 30.

November: Right front channel fails. Subsequently, left front channel fails. Service requested November 22. Acknowledged December 2.

December 12 - Second amp received. Installed January 6. Both front channels out. Test car with Tesla amp. All working. Reinstall first LH amp.

January 12 - Third amp arrives with unknown "revision" to resolve front channel problems.

January 26 : Third amp installed.

January 27 - First two amps shipped to LH.

January 29 - Right front channel fails. Service ticket opened. 3 emails to LH - none returned.

January 30 - First two amps delivered to LH. Service ticket closed. No communication from LH.

January 31 - Left front channel fails.

February 1:

I discovered service ticket had been closed with no comments around 11:30am.

Called Amex and initiated a charge dispute (requesting a refund) early this afternoon.

Subsequently received this via email about three hours later:

We have received your two amps and your new revised amp will ship by the end of the day tomorrow. You should receive email confirmation when we ship out your new unit.

Best regards,

I wrote back as follows:

Matt,

Is the revised amp (#4) the same revision as the last amp (#3) or is there a new revision? I really don’t want to pay for yet another installation unless I’m confident the new amp will work long term.

Have you looked at the returned amps (#1 and #2) and found any problems? Is there a pattern? Are some components burned out? It would really help if I understood the issue(s), even if the resolution is unknown.

Bob
I'd really love for LH to work but (1) I really don't want to spend more $ to replace yet another amp and (2) if I replace the amp and it works, I have no confidence it's a long term play.
Well this is disturbing. I was going to pick up the door speakers at the very least..... Thank you for documenting your experience.

On 2/23, I input a new ticket asking for a refund. On 3/6, they sent an email which was a reply to an older ticket with the following:

I'm sorry that the amp is not functioning properly and we appreciated your time and patient. We are currently testing out a solution for the amps for few weeks already. We should able wrap it up in the next couple weeks and we're looking forward to reach out to you once it's finished.

I've not heard from them since. It's been nine months since they took my money. It is fraud to sell a product that doesn't work and then not warranty or accept a return.
