That's cool. But they only claim 65 mpg, if I did my math right.
That's the kind of reinvention I like seeing for an engine assisted EV. Greatly simplifying the engine component is the way to go. When the engine's sole purpose is to generate electricity rather than create rotational motion, the best design is likely to be completely different than what we have today.
This solution is supposed to weigh about 65 kilos but almost 50kg is in the generator and only 15kg are in the wankel itself. In my view this is much more viable solution, giving almost no vibraton and almost no valves. That linear piston gen above is vibrating like hell.
