Hey fam!
I'm back, and happy to report I'm now the proud owner of a Glacier Blue roadster acquired in Norway! Super happy with the acquisition (crazy story I'll tell once I'm done with all the logistics), although it had some issues with cooling that prevented me from driving it around Norway to get it to where it had to go to get fixed, i.e. Denmark. Eventually trailered it down there to Michael from Elbil Doktoren, a roadster specialist I was really impressed by. He's a former airplane engineer, so he knows his way around everything roadster and EVs in general. He was very welcoming and spent a whole day showing me around his and his customers EVs he's fixing. I don't know about other options in Europe, but I would highly recommend him, even though he's a bit far up there. After rebuilding the PEM and fixing most of the things that were needed (leaving some more mechanical stuff to do down in southern eu), the car is nearly done. The two questions for you all:
1) I'm trying to get it shipped down to Spain. Current gas prices have caused a shortage of shipping options. Current most likely option is using a shipping company with a large truck type of setup that carries 5-6 vehicles. Is this a bad idea in terms of potential damage to the roadster, etc? I have no idea if the entrance/exit angles to load/unload are feasible for it. Has anyone done something like this?
Other option I was considering was towing it on a trailer after buying a van and trailer in germany (been saving to camperize one for a while, not just sitting on piles of cash here haha). I feel like this is the safer, white glove option, like a roadster would require, but it's logistically a bit more complex and expensive...
2) Michael has made a replacement for the roadster charge port that is a type-2 plug (or whatever is standard in europe?). It's well designed and he replaces the port and cables to the PEM. Wondering if I should do this or try to keep the roadster as original as possible (not planning on selling, but you never know). Also wondering if anyone know of options in the EU similar to the CAN that I could get. Does the CAN or any other adapter sold in the US work in Europe?
I haven't even been able to drive it properly, but feel like it's going to be a blast in the curvy roads of northern Spain.
