There used to be problems with UniFi APs where they ate broadcast packets under certain circumstances, which played havoc with DHCP. My GW1 used to drop off the network fairly regularly, but more recent versions of the UAP firmware seem to have fixed this. I'm not sure if this applies to the AmpliFi system or not (same OEM, different product line).

I really want to get Ethernet into my Gateway but it's completely outdoors and I would have to run conduit from the telco/cableco point of entry box to the TEG. I have two unused Cat5e cables in that box and it's ~8ft from the TEG.

I believe that conduit is not required if you have outdoor-rated cable.
