For the (tiny?) minority of customers who find this a problem, Tesla could tweak the charging profile for range mode. i.e don't fully charge the pack, thus leaving enough headroom for regen and at the same time, reduce the maximum power which can be utilised when in range mode, thus extending the range to compensate.
But I don't think there will be enough customers who require this as a permanent solution, when simply remembering to use the friction brakes more frequently works just as well.
