LOW VIN!!! Should I be concerned?

Is it confirmed that 52XXX (got the VIN yesterday) was manufactured months ago? Or it’s still possible they built it in August and assigned an unused VIN?

Definitely not confirmed. Tesla does batch the runs. Given your configuration (MSM, RWD, EAP) my best guess is that they matched you to a vehicle built in the June/July time frame. The only way to be certain is to get the Monroney sticker. June is not a bad build date, BTW. That VIN will have all the improvements.

If a 52000 VIN doesn’t show on United Road, what does it mean? The car was sitting in a lot in Fremont and was never transported anywhere?

Unfortunately it doesn't mean anything. I'm not sure if Tesla uses any other carries (maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in). My VIN only shows AZ to Fremont Lathrop on UR, so it is unknown how it got from Fremont to AZ in the first place.

Edit: factual correction

My concern with June is that it might be sitting in a lot somewhere and battery might have degraded a bit, which might not be a realistic concern. I’ll still ask my IDA for the sticker.

Just spoke with my delivery specialist, my SN / VIN is 53,5XX. I am scheduled to pick it up this Thursday - technically the car was ordered 3 days ago. He pulled up the information on the car and said that the “actual factory gate date” showed 08/22. Not sure what that field means exactly.

After scheduling, I received the VIN almost immediately.

I should add that I’m picking it up from the Fremont Delivery Center.

Oh, thanks for that bit of info. I'm getting a 48xxx VIN and was figuring that was an "older" car. But my Monroney sticker says 08/2018 manufacture.

I wonder if the date on the Monroney is the date when the car is deemed "ready to sell", perhaps after some additional QA work as opposed to the date when it came off the assembly line.

I followed the registration of VIN blocks and took some pictures of tags on vehicles at the local delivery/service center and they seem to indicate that indeed cars are assigned VINs in sequence, as they are built. If that's indeed true, then your car would have been built right around the first week of July 2018.

I ordered my car on 17th August. Received call same evening saying car is ready. I live in EAST coast. I could not take the deliver because my loan was not ready and I was going on vacation for about 3 weeks. I came back and they assigned me VIN yesterday.

The VIN is 27k. Should I be worried?

Also, If I do take the deliver and this car was manufactured before August, will Tesla refund the extra 500 bucks that I paid for blue color which was 1k before August?
I picked up a ~31k in August and it's great. I had 3 very minor paint defects (two of which were on the mirrors) that they are currently taking care of. The car is a beautiful machine.

So the question is, do I refuse delivery. Especially if it has gen 1 seats. That may be enough for me to refuse the delivery. I'm going to write my DS to see if I can get the details about the MFG date, charge records, and whether or not it has Gen 1 seats.
If it has Gen 1 seats, then reject it. The gen 2 rear seats are MUCH better.

Based on this Twitter feed, if production occurs just after the VINs are registered, then my 57K-range VIN would have been built in July.
That would mean that 8 weeks or so had passed between the time the car rolled off the assembly line and my order date.
I'm a bit concerned with being handed a re-worked and less than great car, especially since, being in Texas, I had to pay in full ahead of time. I'm probably the ideal type of customer to be handed a reject since they already have my money.

What do you think, is that old enough to likely be a re-work? At that point the 200K mark had been reached and there would have been no reason to stockpile vehicles other than to address quality issues.
You do realize ALL dealers rework cars and then sell them with the customer never knowing the difference. The difference here seems to be Tesla buyers on this forum are obsessed with VIN numbers. I know because I was one of them :) Now I'm a happy owner of a 3 that took 2 months to get from the factory to my hands (built in June, delivered in August). In fact, the Mazda 6 I bought 3 years ago took over 6 months between manufacture and delivery. Looks like Tesla is doing much better.

There is a reason for that. Your Mazda 6 most likely wasn’t in its first year of production, also it was built on a mature tech that is 100+ years old.

Teslas are very different - these cars are just like smartphones these days. Most issues can be rectified with a firmware/os upgrade but issues like bad battery (note 7) / bad logic board (iphone 8) that happened to certain serial range I’d like to avoid by getting the latest and greatest h/w version available at the time of purchase.

Well in terms of reliability of the car I don't think you'll have any issues I know the model S and the model 3 are completely different animals but I have a 2012 model S VIN number 00162 it is within the first couple of hundred cars ever made and it is Alive and Well charging in my garage today at about 72000 miles on the odometer.
