LR AWD Performance (Stealth TM3) Waiting Room

When ordering a stealth model– do I just walk into my local Tesla dealer or is there a number to call?

You can't order a stealth. You just have to establish a relationship with a sales rep and ask them to notify you if they become aware that Tesla intends to build another batch. But you will likely hear about it first in this forum so keep checking in here. But nobody has any idea if and when they will produce any more. The last batch came as a surprise to all of us.

Yeah, ordered 11/27 but still no VIN here... SA said he heard they were not being made but then said I could wait and see if they make them later in the quarter... I would love to get a definitive answer even if it means waiting a while!

Sorry about that, sounds like they screwed you over. Looking at the thread the majority of the people who ordered late November or early December took delivery.

I ordered around mid-December and have a VIN/MVPA, fully paid the car already... however no car. They have no idea when it will go into production. I'm almost about to call the Fremont factory directly and see what's going on.

Just got my VIN for a Stealth M3. It shows that it is a 2020 model but has a “C” in position 8.
The Vin decoder says this

Motor/Drive Unit C = Base A/C Motor, Tier 2 Battery (31-40 kWh)

What have others who received VIN numbers for upcoming delivery have in that position for a P3D-?

mines the same as you C

look here https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/mid/home/displayfile/c646fbf1-8ba5-4575-af1e-f415a1131337

Digit 8: Motor/Drive Unit

1= Single Motor – Standard (Designated for Model S)

3= Single Motor – Performance (Designated for Model S)

2 = Dual Motor (standard) (Designated for Model S & Model X)

4 = Dual Motor (performance) (Designated for Model S & Model X)

A= Single Motor – Standard / Performance (Designated for Model 3)

B = Dual Motor – Standard (Designated for Model 3)

C = Dual Motor – Performance (Designated for Model 3)

In TX, ordered pre-production Stealth MSM black interior w/ 19's on 11/27, still no VIN... I'm hopeful but not optimistic at this point. Neither SA nor delivery specialist have had any concrete answers.

your SA must have screwed up and/or lied to you... i ordered 12/3 (but with 18s) and received the car 12/18. when my SA sent me the link to order the car, the VIN was part of the link. the VIN never changed.

By Tesla's definition, if it's in pre-production that means it has a VIN and is scheduled to be produced in a few days, maybe a week. Did you check your source code for a VIN? I switched my order on 11/20. The VIN immediately showed up in the source code. I took delivery on 11/27 in Fremont.

Hey man,

I canceled my order and got a refund. My SA ended up contacting Fremont to see what's going on. The pre-production 602 VIN they assigned me is never going to be built as it missed the batch of Stealths back built last December. I don't think you'll ever get a VIN from your November order.

As for Stealths in the future: with the $2k software AWD LR unlock it wouldn't make sense for them to build it anymore.

I'm going to stick with my BMW M3. It's a great car and I get random people giving me thumbs up all the time...

Disagree here. I'd bet Tesla does the same thing this quarter as last: Produce a large batch or Stealths at the beginning of N.America production, the only difference is an increase in price. Instead of a $2k increase, it would be a $3-4k bump. I think most would agree the $2k premium for a Stealth was a bargain. Look at how many opted for lesser stats for the LR/AWD+. They would still sell through any Stealth batch because order holders still want the same stats as the M3P.

Plus, in switching to the Stealth, they would get their cars up to a month sooner than if they wait.

IDK if the software upgrade to the AWD LR is equivalent to the actual stealth - there's good evidence the stealth performance has beefier mosfets in the motors.

it is insane how fast this car is - wikipedia claims the equivalent of 580hp based on track testing some guys did.

If it's a $3K upgrade cost, I would pass. I thing $2k was the sweet spot (Maybe I could be convinced to go to $2,500). If the option is $3k more for a Stealth or $5k more for the full Performance and everything that comes with it, I'd just get the full fledged Performance model.

A lot of Stealth buyers, including myself, shied away from the M3P mostly because of the 20" wheels... and the large premium. The Stealth was a bargain at a $2k premium. It's hard to say if it's still worth $3k or $4k, but I bet a lot of buyers would still go for it. Performance wise, that's still a great bargain to get that kind of stat increase. Imaging the cost to get similar improvement with any ICE car?

100% agree. $5k more for the PUP is an amazing value in and of itself. There is no ICE manufacturer that can match that value. $2k more for the Stealth is an absolutely insane value.
