It's a california rebate, but how do you survive in California with less than 300k household income?
You don't. Eventually, as you get older - the high California salaries go down as it becomes cheaper to find a younger alternative. Trust me, I've seen it work out. It's called, "move up - or move out" -- happening usually between 40 and 50. I'm lucky I found a way around it - I worked for myself.

This makes sense. Things are quickly moving west. About 1000 miles to go.

Congrats! Carrier direct also!

I'm having trouble with the idea of wiring money to Tesla without seeing the car. I think I'm going to request a check from my bank and will hand it direct once I see that the car is free of defects and is included with everything that should come with it. I'm too scared to trust Tesla right now lol.

Yeah... fingers crossed!

My understanding was that if you live in a state where Tesla doesn’t (can’t) technically sell cars, you have to provide payment prior to delivery. I’m not sure if this is more of a function of the carrier direct delivery, or if it is because of Tesla’s inability to sell cars in my state. I also don’t think I can refuse delivery. I was told the car will be delivered whether I am home or not!

Where do you live?

Ordered originally 9/24 then applied changes 10/7. Was originally going to go for carrier delivery (and will if it goes past Thanksgiving) but decided to pick up in Denver just because of the wiring money sight unseen thing. The new car dealers in NM have a powerful lobby outside of Albuquerque. That's why we can't transact through the carrier. Glad to see someone here get delivery date. I suspect my color choice is a holdup.

Probably not color choice. It’s probably the changes on 10/7. I would guess that 10/7 orders in your area are processing real soon.

Interesting... so if I live in WI, but am picking up my car on Monday in Chicago, what options do I have for how I pay them day of? Does anyone know if I can just write a check for the amount owed upon delivery or does it have to be a direct wire transfer?

I live in Texas and that’s what I had to do. However from two current owners experiences they refused initial delivery. One car had damage so they had to ship a new one which took two additional months. I’m still waiting on delivery set for Saturday but we’ll see if it happens.

How does that work out for you regarding taxes? For the carrier direct, my bank just wired them the amount of the car and destination fee (no taxes), and then I am subject to local taxes when I register the vehicle. I briefly looked into picking up a Tesla in a nearby state, but we have really low auto sales tax (4% total) and I could never get a straight answer from Tesla how they handled sales tax if you bought outside your home state. After state and local taxes, Denver has an effective 8.31% tax rate. After not being able to get a straight answer, I accepted the carrier direct delivery method as I didn’t have to take a road trip and the delivery to my door was already included in the purchase price.

I know, as Illinois residents, that my sister and I were each able to pay our respective balances by personal check at the Westmont delivery center. Not sure about out-of-state residents, but I wouldn't be surprised if they let you use a personal check.

The last car I bought was shipped from CT and when I asked about taxes I was told that you only pay tax in the state where you register the vehicle. The one exception I have found is CA where there is a sales tax rather than a motor vehicle tax. I don't get hoe Tesla gets around this.

Yes, CA taxes! I was originally looking at going out to CA in September as there was a lot of inventory out there and I had family I could stay with, but it wasn’t worth it.

Hopefully you can take delivery in Denver and then just pay NM sales tax when you register.
