I'm finally coming out of lurking to add to this post.

Order date: March 19
Text with "tentative" delivery date: March 29

Called again today letting them know that I took the day off work on the 29th to accept delivery, and because of that I was willing to accept a variation of my car. Rep found an exact copy of my car but with AERO wheels instead of SPORT and said I could definitely have it here by Friday. 20 minutes later a VIN appeared in my account. So looks like I'm getting a car?

HYPE!

2018 or 2019?

Update

3/10 - Ordered LR RWD, MSM, 19" Wheels, Black Premium Interior.
3/21 - Received delivery appointment text tentatively scheduled for 3/29, no VIN assigned yet.
3/23 - Received call from Tesla offering to switch me to an AWD demo vehicle at a discount. I passed.
3/26 - 2019 VIN number appeared in my online account.

Update: I just got assigned a VIN (2019 model) and the documents to sign as well as payment due sections in account page became available

I ordered March 18. White/White

Hmm. I ordered my White/White LR RWD on March 7th. I still have no VIN, although I did get a March 29 delivery date. Which wheels did you get? I'm starting to get a bit frustrated.

Ordered LR RWD black on black with hubcaps late on 17MAR2019. Just got the text that it will be delivered to the house 25MAR2019. VIN is 2019. So a week isn't bad.
No upsell offers for AWD or paint or wheels. Was kinda hoping for a lightly discounted paint upgrade, but I guess black it is. We had decided to get a MR on Saturday, and laughed when it disappeared on Sunday. Almost got a gray inventory one, but thought the money was better spent on the ginormous battery as we plan to road trip and keep the car forever.
Update:
Tesla delivered the car to our door Monday March 25th.
Car looks perfect except for a small paint booger on the front trunk lip. Not noticeable when closed.

Delivery took maybe 30 min.
Delivered out of Raleigh office.

So far so good!

Build date is 3/19 so happy about that I guess? Ordered March 17th, so fresh!

Just wanted to post an update. My delivery center is West Palm Beach. I called to get a couple of questions answered and one the specialists helping me said let's check to see where your vehicle is. It was already at the SC. I asked if I could move up my delivery to Monday and they said no problem. I'm set for tomorrow at noon. A little over 24 hours to wait. I swear I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
Update:
I had my delivery yesterday at noon. The process was amazingly simple. I had to sign a 5-6 papers. Completely different from any prior car buying experience I've ever had. They then handed me my keys and took me out to go over the car and features. My delivery specialist was very knowledgeable and very patient answering all my questions. Car was flawless with only 5 miles on the ODO. I had test drove the performance model but purchased the RWD and was a little worried that the acceleration would be a lot different. Well I am supremely pleased with how fast it is. Beautiful car (see pics).

Took delivery of my white/black LW RWD today!! I have to say I LOVE THIS CAR!! I didn’t see any panel gap issues and any other quality issues. Very pleased with the delivery, took 10 minutes for paperwork and another 30 with the Tesla agent, all in my driveway. Odometer said 25 miles but he had to drive it from the dealership to my house.

After taking my wife for a drive I saw the I want this car look.

Car is paid for... or rather financing is all handled. Downpayment is secured. Paperwork is all done (minus whatever I need to sign on delivery) Now I just need to somehow survive the 72 hours to delivery.

Dates for those interested:
  • Config date - March 19 (LR w/ sport wheels and FSD)
  • Tentative delivery date sent - March 22 (for March 29)
  • 3 days of calling to change that to confirmed delivery day - only to find that they likely won't have one with sport wheels. So I downgraded to Aero wheels
  • Confirmed delivery date - March 26 (also paid all the remaining things I owe)

It looks like I lucked out in timing my order. I ordered on the 18th and had my VIN in less than 3 days. My credit union drags its feet a bit with approving things and I thought I'd have plenty of time between when I ordered and when the car was available to get paperwork and everything sorted, but it's been so fast that I'm going to be lucky if the check gets to California before Saturday when I'm supposed to be picking it up. For reference it's LR RWD, blue paint, aero wheels, black interior, autopilot, and I'm in PA.

Awoke this morning, no email from Tesla, but, upon logging into my account, saw that I have now been assigned a VIN!

Recapping: I originally ordered a Grey/White MR on 3/7. I changed to White/White MR, and was then contacted and told no more MR's. At that point, I upgraded to a LR RWD White/White 18" Aeros, and got my paint comped. However, my sales contract continued to reflect the VIN of the old (grey/MR) car which was a 2018. Today, I have a new VIN with a "K" (meaning, it's a 2019), but my sales contract is still showing the old car. After a call to the team in Fremont, I was told that the finance department (I went through Tesla for financing) would soon correct this and replace the contract with a new one reflecting the correct car/VIN.

So... I'm happy! I will say this; I had moments of doubt. I had been shopping around online, looking at other cars in case things drug on and on (I currently have no car - I sold my BMW 3-series convertible outright, rather than take a low trade-in amount, which was a very good decision. I got probably $4K to $5K more by doing that. The only downside was, it left me with no car while I was waiting on the Model 3. This, as you might imagine, upped the stress level considerably.) Anyway, it looks like Tesla has come through.

The odd thing in all this has been the odd disconnect between what I read in various news outlets (such as Yahoo) about "Tesla's struggles", and how they're probably not going to be able to deliver on the Model 3, and how this will plunge the company into trouble, etc. Much gloom and doom. Compare that with the actual experience I've had as a customer, and there's a discrepancy. I ordered a Tesla Model 3 this month, in a less common color configuration (white/white) and yet, it seems I am still going to take delivery within the same month - approximately 3 weeks. To me, that's fairly impressive. Why is it, then, that Tesla's successes aren't amplified within the media in the same manner that the neigh-sayer's prognostications for doom and gloom are?

Anyway, I was pleased to get a VIN. I'll update again when I take delivery.

Another update - while I was typing the above, Tesla corrected my sales contract to reflect the new ("K") white/white model, and now everything is completely squared away. I guess the takeaway from this is, until you get a VIN, things may go quite slow, but, once a VIN is assigned, things move quite quickly. Again, the team in Fremont did a fantastic job in pro-actively helping me resolve the issues that were created when I changed paint colors and changed from MR to LR. I hope all reading this who have yet to get their VINs soon find their patience rewarded as I did.
