LTE upgrade issues?

Have others who have done the LTE upgrade experienced connectivity issues? I called the service center this morning to make an appt for the upgrade, and was told by the service specialist that they've been having quite a few issues with the LTE upgrade, with a significant number of customers losing connectivity altogether. Apparently there's a fix that is on the way via firmware. I didn't get a whole lot of detail, but I called a second service center and was told that Tesla is very close to resolving the issues, and it should be fully addressed within the next month. I've decided to hold off on the upgrade for now.

Interesting. For now, the Centinela service center (West LA) is holding off on doing further LTE upgrades, even though they have the parts, because of concerns with the ongoing connectivity issues. If you're up in NorCal and getting serviced at Fremont, maybe they have updated firmware already available to install.

I had the upgrade done about a month ago. When I park in an underground parking lot where there is no signal, I typically need to reboot after leaving the garage to obtain any signal at all. This never happened with 3G.

    Good decision.

I traded an S85 for a P85D last month. When it works (which is rare) the LTE cell radio is a nice improvement over 3G. Quick song loads and page loads. But it works so infrequently, I wish I could swap a 3G chipset in my car. >95% of the time I have no connectivity at all.

I would definitely wait until this is sorted out.

How is your LTE signal level at the place where MS goes to sleep, switching from Cellular to Wifi and back. Since you are fine and others are having connectivity issues, I cannot understand how an uniform software code would generate opposite connectivity performance. I am incline to believe that it is signal strength or roaming issue related.

I had my December 2014 P85D upgraded with LTE about a month ago and haven't had any problems with it staying connected. If you have reliable 3G reception, then maybe hold off, but if you live in a place where 3G isn't so hot, then you may want to roll the dice and proceed with the upgrade.

Just had mine done well over a month ago and nothing but good results. One lock-up glitch near the Atlanta Airport after a several day park but the same thing happened when I had 3G. Well worth the price and dramatic improvement over 3G

Mine has been working perfectly. Great reception over 3G. It did lose connectivity altogether once however. I was at a car show, so I was opening and closing the door quite a bit. I just assumed that it wasn't happy with chronic on/off sequences. A quick reboot of the center console fixed it.

Mine has worked fine for the five weeks I've had it. I park in a zero reception area every workday and it comes up right away when I exit the parking lot. The 3G took up to 20 minutes (on version 6.2, it was fine before 6.2).

I started a thread about a GPS issue (no GPS) that I'm reasonably certain is directly related to my LTE upgrade. (The car came back from the service center with no GPS connectivity.)

No GPS After LTE Upgrade (And Other Work On Car)

I expect this is probably a "one-off" kind of thing, though.

sleep? I don't believe my car gets into the "deep" sleep others report, from my normal sleep all is well other than having to reset the usb port.

I received the LTE upgrade 2 weeks ago. I have not lost connectivity once.

I'd suggest anyone getting this upgrade make certain that GPS is working before leaving the service center. I thought my situation was a "one-off", as I wrote above, but I heard via private message that at least one other person experienced something like this after having his car upgraded to LTE, but the service center noticed the issue, and corrected it before releasing his car.

This may not be a wide spread issue, but it sounds like it is not completely isolated either.

My car now has to go back to the service center over 200 miles away.

May build 85D here on 3G. I have had fairly regular problems with my 3G not getting connectivity after disconnecting from Wifi. I'd probably guess 20% of the time when I leave the house in the morning I have to reboot the main screen to get connectivity.

I'm scheduled for the LTE upgrade on Monday at the Dallas Service Center.

I just had the LTE upgrade done last week at Mt. Kisco. I picked up the car Saturday and have not had any of the same issues. Our cars we built right around the same time. Maybe they learned something with your upgrade and applied it to mine.

    Heh!

It's possible, as I called to alert them to the problem on Friday. I imagine one of the first things they did at that point was check your car to make sure GPS was working, since you were coming for it the next day!
