Blog Lucid Says 2021 Sedan Will Pack 500 Miles of Range

Lucid Motors announced Wednesday that it’s upcoming sedan will be powered by a 113 kWh battery pack capable of an estimated EPA range of up to 517 miles.

The company says it’s able to achieve the industry’s best range through its “Lucid Space Concept” design, which “capitalizes upon the miniaturization of Lucid’s in-house developed EV drivetrain and battery pack to optimize interior cabin space within Lucid Air’s relatively compact exterior footprint.”

“It’s relatively easy to achieve more range by adding progressively more batteries, but gaining ‘dumb range’ that way increases weight and cost, and reduces interior space,” Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Motors, said in a release. “Lucid Air has achieved its remarkable range whilst also reducing battery size through its in-house technology, resulting in a breakthrough in overall vehicle-level efficiency.”

Rawlinson added that the breakthrough is “not merely just a few percent; we are talking about a significant improvement.”

The production version of the Lucid Air will debut on September 9. In addition to the vehicle’s final interior and exterior designs, new details about production specifications, available configurations, and pricing information will also be shared, the company said.

Production is expected to start at Lucid’s factory in Casa Grande, Arizona  in early 2021.

I'm more impressed by this car all the time. I hope they manage to stay solvent through these tough initial years. The EV world need more good car options.

Has a price been announced yet?

I agree with the spirit of what you are saying but dislike these kind of claims because they are not a report on a new EV option as as much as they are an attempt to slow Tesla down with fanciful claims. I (as I think Elon would) am cheering for anyone who can make better sustainable transportation but I don't think these claims contribute to that end.

Its not a fancfiful claim though, FEV Labs tested it, using the EPA procedure, to come up with the 500+ figure (517 miles was their evaluation). Motortrends did a real world test on the vehicle driving it 100%-0% and got 490 miles.

Does lucid come to your house and update your HW2 to HW3 for free by an awesome friendly knowledgable repairman who answered every question?. Does the CEO of Lucid reply to your tweets directly? Is lucid as dependable and reliable as a Tesla? Does Lucid have a supercharger network? Does Lucid have over the air updates? All these questions have the answer of NO. So when Lucid is better then tesla I may give a damn what range their cars might go.

This was the funniest thing I have read all day, thanks for that. I personally don't think the CEO replying to tweets is relevant to the car, but good on you if you were in the .01% of non-influencers Elon has replied to.

And lucid is advertising they will have OTA updates. Unfortunately they are also following in Tesla's footsteps by promising driver assistance software later the car won't ship with it sounds like. I kinda hate that Tesla has made it an acceptable practice for folks to buy EVs and then wait years for the release of what they were sold. Ford is going to do the same thing with the Mach E. Ugh.

Who knows what they will actually deliver, should be interesting.

1) Friendly? sure. Knowledgable repairman? Nope. So many people have said they don't really know anything other than what they are fixing. You need to talk to the engineers who designed the car.
2) answer tweets? haha I did not know this was considered a positive benefit when I bought my Tesla.
3) reliable as Tesla is pretty easy to beat for those early 2012 cars. Sure the new ones are better, but model 3 had their issues. Same goes for model Y. Given the amount of time Lucid actually did test their vehicles, unlike Tesla, I say they will be more reliable.
4) Lucid said they will have free 3 years on Electrify America network and other DC fast charging network so they don't have to worry about subscription and such.
5) I am sure there will be OTA updates. You kind of need it in this day and age.

So to answer to all your questions:
1) NO, but they don't need to because their cars actually will be reliable.
2) NO, but it's not like this is a positive benefit of owning a car.
3) YES, and probably better than tesla
4) YES
5) YES

how do you know their cars will be reliable or do what they say, it doesn't have any customer feedback yet? So you don't feel getting feedback directly from the CEO is positive then tell me the last time you talk or tweeted the CEO of Toyota GM Ford Lamborgini Ferrari ,,, I got free supercharger for life with my Model X.

Tesla is as poor at CS as any make, so odds are Lucid will be better.
