Legacy auto industry has the Madison Ave angle wired. Here is a fine example from last year

Design study and technology demonstrator, electric car and power pack in the guise of a coupé: Audi presents a versatile concept car at the Auto Shanghai this spring. The four-door Gran Turismo Audi e-tron Sportback concept comes with a 320 kW electric drive. The formal idiom combines classic Audi elements with an array of trendsetting details: an electrifying architecture, tailored consistently to the technology and the package of the electric drive.

AUTO SHANGHAI 2017 : NEW AUDI E-TRON SPORTBACK CONCEPT l WORLD PREMIERE

Really a fine show. You will enjoy it. Do you still bother to test drive? or just go buy one?

PS - Madison Avenue mentality. A way of viewing the world according to which people are more concerned about how things appear to others than how they really are – that is, the appearance of doing the right thing matters more than the actual behavior. Moral values (morals).

I read your thread title and thought Audi had won an award for their advertising while Tesla not only didn't win, but didn't put forward any advertising to be considered for the award.
When you're right, you are really, really right ! Tesla has yet to spend money with "Madison Ave."
To paraphrase Elon, he says something like:

Build a compelling product and people will buy it.
If you don't people might not buy and you should probably just go out of business.
After all what is the point if you can't do better than what is already offered?

Elon given a choice: spend money on ads? or spend money on improving the product? Which would you think Elon/Tesla would pick?
