Mains cable does not open charge port

Hi all, just picked up my model 3. I don't have a charging point at home so I have run a cable out of my letter box to charge it for the mo. Anyway, using the mains cable, you cannot open the charging point from the button on the cable head- it that supposed to work? - in fact I'm not even sure if it is a button or just a round dot. Or is it just the type 2 or super charger cables where you can open the port from the cable head?

That button will only work if the car is unlocked, I believe. Is your car unlocked first? You can start by opening a rear door, which is what I do.

Do you have your phone set up as a car key? Once you do just having the phone with you will allow the charge port to open. This is a security feature. Once plugged in you also need the phone or for the car to be unlocked to remove it from the port. Those charging cables cost about $300, you don't want it stolen.
