Map stays zoomed out

From reading the descriptions again the reason I don't see a change is that I have never routinely used the nav with that level of zoom. (I prefer to see a birdseye view of the next couple of corners coming up rather than what's just in front of me.)

Problem is the birdseye view now has a span of about 10 miles! Double tapping didnt work for me

Same here. After the v11 update, the map is always zoomed out especially after a navigation set. Also it doesn't remember my setting for facing up. It always wants to revert back to facing north. Kinda annoying.

With the double tap, you get to customise just how zoomed in you want to be.

Correct. just double tap the red arrow. multiple double taps zoom in significantly.

I found the solution on mine. Select the destination then wait for the intersection changes list to appear. The map is zoomed out at this point.
Tap once on the destination at the bottom of the screen. After a second or two the screen will zoom in and you get the car icon in the centre of the screen and the immediate surroundings. You will also see that the orientation button will now be visible so you can changes between "North up" and "Driving direction up".
