Did you get your car?? How was the delivery process??
I got the car!!! Guys, everyone is right. The moment you see her, all of the worries you've had after reading the horror stories on the boards go away.
TL;DR - Great MDR experience. Just what I wanted. Small paint issue. Getting that fixed when I get a chance to stop by a service center. Car is amazing.
With the amount of cars that they have at MDR waiting for delivery, the process feels very personalized. We had our appointment set for 3:15. We arrived about 25 minutes early (taking a Lyft), so they asked us to hang out in the waiting room for a bit. There was one couple ahead of us that was signing papers, so I took a chance to look at the Model 3 that they have in the showroom to familiarize myself with a few of the things I wanted to check out during my inspection.
Our delivery representative was available about 10 minutes before our 3:15 appointment, so we sat down and went through all of the docs. It was very painless. One thing I didn't know is that you cannot do any modifications to the DMV registration (vanity plates, etc - I wanted to get the black plates with yellow letters/numbers - no cute saying just a standard issue) until you receive the standard registration back from the DMV (about 45-60 days) so that made the process go even quicker. This probably took a total of 10 minutes. For this entire process we were the only people in the entire waiting and signing area.
Once you get through the docs, the delivery specialist passes you off to chat with a charging guy for a second while they go process all the docs. About 3 minutes later, Nick came back and was ready to show us the car.
He walked through a couple of things in the warehouse, and then said he would pull the car out to the side and we would continue our walk through there. He showed us how to work the app, open the charge port, open the frunk, and use the keycard.
We all then got in the car and he drove it down the ramp to the side of the bldg. There, my wife began the internal inspection (as he was walking her through how to use the features of the touch screen) which gave me a chance to look at the exterior. Overall, the car was in great shape. I think I have a tad misalignment of my rear lighting housings, but I'll look into that later. The one on the charge port side sticks out a couple thousandths of an inch further than the one on the passenger side. I also found one little paint chip at the top of where the front passenger headlamp housing meats the fender, but it was not enough to waste the time of having them fix it there. Nick took pictures of it and passed them along to the service center that is closer to where I live (the one in the valley), so sometime this weekend I"ll stop by and they'll fix it. Also, as we were going through all of this on the side of the bldg, I'd say a M3 was being moved from their detail center (other side of the warehouse) to the delivery side about one every every 3 minutes. So they have a lot of cars going through there. Our detail guy said they like to do 4 every 15 minutes, but then mentioned it was slow yesterday because they have increased qc at the burbank holding center so cars are coming over as fast as they used to.
Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. There wasn't a fancy red runway, or a picture op location like I have seen at other delivery centers but that's ok. I just wanted to get into the car and drive.
And holy *sugar* guys. It's so much fun to drive. I ordered the AWD. I was expecting torque, but not this much torque. I can't imagine what Ludicrous mode feels like because this is a hell of a lot of torque. I've owned 2 BMWs and this is in another league. Can't wait to take it out of the city on some open roads!
Best of luck to everyone on getting their car to MDR!!! Fingers crossed they are all on a truck as we speak in transit to MDR!
