Canada required proper training, and *exams*, before granting gun permits. It eliminated nearly all accidental gun injuries. You can still get a permit to carry a gun outside a gun range in Canada, of course (plenty of hunters there!) -- you just have to prove you know what you're doing. Unlike in the US.Fewer than have been injured and killed unintentionally. Again, it's a statistical fact that owning a gun makes you less safe.
Unfortunately, the psychopath running the NRA is insistent on making sure that totally irresponsible untrained people be given access to guns immediately. This is probably in order to increase gun sales, since the NRA has turned into a front for the gun manufacturers.
