In the nineteen sixties I asked a psychiatrist whether a troubled friend who was older might benefit from therapy. He said older people benefit more—“They have fewer illusions.”

I have observed for decades how people often talk about their self-image in ways contradicting their actual behavior. Eventually I concluded the only people who have an accurate assessment of themselves have no self image. They grow and change with time. They are transparent. They are not hypocrites. They have no illusions. Musk is one of them.

From a progressive standpoint it would have been nice if Trump were a uniter rather than a divider. As many have pointed out Pence would likely have pushed the same illusions about policy which have prevailed too long in American politics anyway.

I’m not too hopeful history will make this judgment about the Trump era, but hope was invented for those who need it.

I think it is possible history will judge the Trump era positively because the American people were forced to give up their illusions about the country and themselves.

We are racists, white men have done terrible things. Our foreign policy, especially in the Middle East, but in poor countries as well has been guided by imperialism. Costing millions of lives and trillions of lucre.

There is a difference between Leninist, authoritarian government, and democratic socialism, christian capitalism. While there have been great strides in spreading the liberal international economic order, illiberal policies will have to be implemented to meet the challenge of climate change, but they are cost effective.

An illusion? Maybe, but the Green New Deal is a place to start.

Trump, the man and his policies—the houdini of political illusion—by his example and deeds—requires we change us.

Krystal Ball absolutely nailed it this morning. The DNC has done more to undermine Democracy than Russia ever could (as if we didn't know that already though). This is far and away her best segment yet on The Hill, and very much worth watching because it really lays out clearly how the DNC has robbed the working class and minority voters of their votes in the Iowa Primary :

And now that a clear Bernie victory must be announced, Tom Perez adds more DNC manipulation to the Iowa Dumpster Fire by demanding a re-canvasing of their shenanigans.

So the DNC rigs the 2016 primary to elect Hillary........and admits it.........and then loses to Trump in the process..........and then starts out the 2020 primary by rigging the election against Bernie once again..........and is caught with their hand in the cookie jar.........once again............making it clear that they prefer Trump in office over Sanders. So while the policy choices of the Republicans may frustrate many of us (myself included), the RNC is arguably far more honest than the DNC (very disheartening to say out loud as a registered Democrat). When Trump was running over all the RNC's cherry-picked favorites in the 2016 primaries, the RNC at least honored the will of their voters instead of the will of their donors. This has been a pathetic week for the DNC. Tom Perez resigning is not enough, because it doesn't change the cast of characters pulling the strings of the next DNC Chair puppet.

No fair vote...........no Green New Deal..........no US led effort to create a more sustainable planet

I don't trust the whole idea of assigning delegates in the first place (my discussion with wdolson some time ago). It only introduces rather arbitrary distortions. The initial popular vote is probably the most revealing number.

However also interesting would be the result of a vote in which Sanders and Buttigieg were the only two choices. Yet that we won't get in any recanvass either.

Ok guys, honest question here. What's the deal with "The Hill". Is this legit stuff or Fox News for progressives?

I was a big time Bernie supporter in 2016. I support him now. I stopped giving to the DNC and only give directly to candidates now. I should love The Hill. But, all that being said when I've watched a few of their YouTube videos it kind of had the smell of really biased nonsense. Am I wrong? I'm ok with being wrong.

PS check out what I did to my car in 2016. A Bernie Sanders supporter transformed his Corvette into the ultimate piece of political art

I find The Hill to be very rational and they have a pretty good track record of getting people of varying opinions on the program and calling trends accurately. The male co-host is actually not progressive but conservative, though the lens of the program is obviously progressive. They are anti corporate Republicans and Democrats alike.

The Hill is not unique or a new phenomenon. Jimmy Dore, Kyle Kulinski, and Mike Figueredo have been following the same strategy on YouTube for years now.

It's a fresh perspective compared to mainstream media.

Of course, and TYT, David Pakman, David Dole, etc., The Hill just seems more polished and "mainstream" in appearance unlike some of the other's who seem to be working from their basement. There are a number of good grass roots progressive voices out there, as well as some nutters.

There might be a FOX connection.

Jimmy Dore on Tucker Carlson?
