MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

I know I should not be, but I continue to be amazed at how differently we are all experiencing the "same software on the same hardware".

My Automatic wipers have never come on, even though I have had limited vision to require manual wipers 4 times in the last week. One time I received the error message that the front camera was blocked(due to water on the windshield).

The voice commands also are hit and miss. I initially tested up/set up the texting in my driveway while the car was not moving and it was perfect, my words popping up in the text almost immediately.

Since then, any attempts to use the Voice Command button on the "car card" or steering wheel has led to the Green button displaying, but not a single word being heard/displayed.

If I click within navigation, and then use the microphone button, it works 100% of the time.

I also am not seeing the Ping Pong within a lane that many are describing, even some crazy construction wavy lane lines(Near Rengstorff on 101 in Mountain View)

Tesla has been deploying the 2019.40.x firmware for a considerable amount of time at this point. The middle number is the week of the year so we’re nearly 15 weeks past the last major change.

I can’t help but think something very big is coming and they’re thoroughly testing it before release. This cadence is unusual and I think some real FSD progress might be imminent.

Sorry for my ignorance but was the last major change the v10 update?

As I understand it there are major changes to user-facing features (v10) and major changes to code branches (2019.40.x) and they don’t necessarily coincide.

I’m sure someone more knowledgeable than I can speak to this but I believe that the current underlying firmware was finalized in week 40 of 2019. Generally these things happen more frequently (.28, .32, .35, .36 for example).

I was just thinking the same thing... The pace of updates seemed weekly and feels like its dropped off.

hoping for some bug fixes here soon!

well, I have now updated to 2019.40.50.7.......I can tell from my perspective, the 50.1 version was much better......I have now witnessed much slower brake reg......each time I get into the car, I get a message that brake regeneration is limited.....voice commands that worked perfectly before are now having to be said 2 and 3 times before it will recognize them....in some cases, I get something entirely different than what I said.....auto play for messages is hit or miss but was perfect before....juat hope Tesla comes out with some updates that fix these issues.....

Major changes to user-facing features can be found in dot-releases, such as 10.1 and 10.2, but you are correct that this no longer necessarily corresponds to the week changing in year-wk firmware versioning.

For example, the last 9.0 version I received was 2019.32.2.2, and the first 10.0 version was 2019.32.10.1, so the week number was the same.
Similarly, the last 10.1 version was 2019.40.2.1, but 10.2 brought new features yet the firmware version was 2019.40.50.1, same week version.
Conversely, when 10.1 was release, versions went from 2019.32.12.2 to 2019.36.2.1, so new week numbers there.

Here are all the updates I received on my 3 for the last ~1 year:

Code:
9.0 2019.5.15
9.0 2019.8.3
9.0 2019.8.5

9.0 2019.20.1
9.0 2019.20.2.1
9.0 2019.20.4.1
9.0 2019.20.4.2
9.0 2019.24.4
9.0 2019.28.3.1
9.0 2019.32
9.0 2019.32.2.2
10.0 2019.32.10.1
10.0 2019.32.11
10.0 2019.32.11.1

10.2 2019.40.50.5
10.2 2019.40.50.7

I am currently on 2019.40.50.7 but my car is at the SC and just got a software update notification. I’ll have to wait until I pick it up this afternoon to install but maybe an update is on its way to fix my limited regen and crappy voice commands.

disclaimer: 6/18 LR with updates set to Advanced but do not have FSD

You can see what version of the software is pending install in your app.

Any news?
Very strange. I just picked up my car and immediately checked the available update on my car and it was showing me that it was up to date. I definitely got a notification that one was available. I’ve heard in the past that some updates get pulled back if not downloaded and installed right away but I feel like that was too quick...

Oh, so you car was in the service! I thought it was Supercharger :) Probably it was a part of service procedure to tamper with FW updates, so it looks like false alarm. However, it might also be an indication of some internally available build which triggered your notification accidentally ;) Hopefully so.

My car came from the factory with 35.102 (or something weird like that) and I was pleasantly surprised to find that one pedal driving was very similar to my BMW i3. That is to say, I almost never had to use the brake pedal. Then the 40.X series dropped and I find myself using the friction brakes probably 50% of the time when driving around town and now 50.7 isn't any better. And when regen is limited due to cold, its darn near useless. It is especially annoying how the regen bar can be 50% limited but the green bar won't ever even approach anything near the full 50% so it is more like only 30% regen in practice. Someone over on reddit postulated that Tesla took apart some batteries that have been in service for a bit and found that they had far more dendrite formation than expected due to pushing a lot of amperage in to the low cobalt batteries at low temperatures which led them to push out BMS software updates that severely nerfed regen and cold weather charging. I have no data to back that up but it seems reasonable, I suppose.

My experience is exactly like yours. Before 1 pedal driving was the norm with the odd brake use. Now you have to use the friction brakes 50% of the time.
And like i said, 35C here - so battery warmth not an issue.
