Master Thread: 3 Delivery experiences

Hey guys didn’t know where else to post this experience. We are scheduled for delivery tomorrow 1130am, were given a vin, everything confirmed last week, have insurance on the car with that vin and cashiers check from the loan ready to go. Today we get a text from the delivery specialist that they gave the car to someone else. How is this possible? And if we would be able to pick up October 18th now with a new vin. My wife and I both took off work, she is really turned off by the experience and wants to cancel

I’m really sorry to hear that. That sort of thing would put off most people. I am a little surprised they were so direct about it rather than say they need to find you a new car due to unforeseen issues. It may be neither here nor there, but it does sound like an issue at Tesla corporate versus the Mt. Kisco location.

I picked up mine from Mt. Kisco on 9/20. I have also been there a few times to look at the cars in the showroom or for a test drive. They have always been professional and accommodating. My delivery experience was really smooth. The car looked great on delivery day.

I would suggest bringing a bank check and not handing it to them until after you’ve inspected the car. They gladly obliged me as I crawled in, around and under the car.

If you can look past this delivery issue, you are going to absolutely love this car. I find myself taking the long way to everywhere. It is a blast to drive. Literally.

Finally, if you want to take a little solace and laugh a bit, check out the latest Plug Your Ride podcast. The host bought a Model 3 and shares his recent tale of non-delivery woes.

Do hang in there. It will all be worth it!

I had similar experience as tesla texted me twice that if I can pickup car and as soon as I said yes , they replied me that my car is no longer available. I tried Mt Kisco but no use and they didn’t even setup the delivery date .. worst customer service car delivery experience.. i am day one reservation holder and ordered M3AWD DMB on 6/26/2018.. .. I am lost faith on tesla delivery and if I put deadline this weekend .. if nothing happens I will just cancel my order .. I can’t wait any longer than this .. crazy

Very sorry to hear that and can understand how frustrating it is considering how many of us felt with their stupid "car matched" teasing text last week. Please be patient and persistent and do tweet your experience politely to Mr.Musk and wonders will happen in hours. Don't give up for their screw up.

I got royals screwed by these guys. I've posted elsewhere my experience, and the high financial and time costs involved, including denying reimbursement for a rental that they said they would pay for. I am really sorry to hear that there outrageous behavior is not isolated. Best of luck.

At least there is a place to tell the truth about this. They did this to a lot of people. Best idea is to sit at that dealer and insist they steal a car from someone else. That's why you don't have your car and at this point those that are aggressive will get cars and the passive people will not.

Same thing happened to me. I changed from 9/20 to 10/6 because I was on the road. They then told me the day before I was to pick it up that the car wasn't there yet ,I rescheduled. The day before my next appointment hey then told me that the car had quality issues with the battery and I needed to wait 2 more weeks. In the meantime Connecticut was changing their $3K rebate requirements, so I settled for a RWD LR car which I love. Now the rebate program is telling me that MT Kisco has not filed the final documentation and I might loose the rebate. No one has called me back in 3 weeks. I am very disappointed in the delivery process but love the car.

To throw in my experience here I can say that the overall delivery experience through Mt Kisko was the worst customer service I have ever had to go through. That said, I had "home" delivery which may be responsible for most of the headache. The majority of the problem came from my home delivery contact who was virtually impossible to contact. In the approximately two dozen calls I had to make to get necessary status updates and information only 1 was actually picked up which was made immediately after the one of perhaps 5 times I got called for any kind of status update.

I paid for the car in September, I received it last week after 2 supposed delivery attempts. I say this as I rarely was provided any information to backup that anything was happening and contact with Mt. Kisko directly often turned up no signs of any actual effort to load up and ship the car.

Other than them holding my payment hostage for 3 months and my delivery contact being basically worthless, the interactions I had with the Mt. Kisko staff were quite good. The contacts on the phone were all very helpful and got me the answers I was looking for in most cases unless the answer was in the hands of my delivery adviser himself which basically came down to them leaving him a message that would not be returned anyway.

There was also some unclear/shady dealings with supposed paint damage to my original vehicle leading them to swap me to a new VIN. In the end, the car I got is great so I'm happy but some of the mixed messages I got from various people during the transition leave me unsure exactly what/when the events that led to change took place and may have been used as only a stall tactic.

Would 100% not recommend at home delivery if you can reasonably avoid it.

I wanted to provide a report of a positive experience purchasing and receiving our new Model 3 LR AWD at the Scottsdale AZ Service Center. My concerns having read too much of this forum (haha) were unfounded. The car was delivered in as good of a condition, and perhaps better, than any new car I've previously purchased. Thinking back, most cars I've purchased in the past always ended up with a "we owe" statement for something missing or needing to be adjusted / fixed.

Panel fitment is excellent, no scratches or scuffs, and everything complete. "Touch free" delivery was uneventful and like a party complete with music and reps available to answer questions. There were two or three rows of covered parking spots for active deliveries. The auto transporters were bringing more cars in as fast as new owners were driving them away.

After a quick once-over, I accepted delivery via the web portal, then was able to unlock my new car using the Tesla app. There were a couple sheets of paper to sign in a folder on the passenger's seat, and the deed was done. I didn't even have to worry about paying for it, since I had seen to that the day before using the, again uneventful, Plaid ACH.

As I snow-bird to AZ, my purchase was "out-of-state" since the car will be registered in my home state. There was some initial consternation from my home state Tesla rep, but he researched it, got in touch with the folks at Scottsdale, and found out it's no big deal so long as we filled out and uploaded a state-specific non-resident affidavit, and there was a similar statement to sign at day of delivery. I imagine all the auto dealers in Scottsdale are accustomed to out-of-state purchases... it is a great place to visit and shop for cars / motorcycles.

The car looks better than I imagined and is a hoot to drive! It does have the new headlights and was manufactured this month.

Congratulations and welcome!!

Regardless of what you read on a forum like this, Tesla customer satisfaction is right at the top of the mark. They wouldn't sell every single car they build if it weren't.

Enjoy the car -- have a blast; it'll continue to impress you day in and day out! Mine is almost 2 years old now and I still itch to drive it every.single.day. And then about once a month or so, the car downloads a software update that makes it like a new car all over again. I've never owned anything like this before!

Enjoy it -- have a blast!

Of course they sell them eventually, like other automakers. but certainly not always right away. It's not like every car Tesla builds is for immediate sale. They build plenty of cars on spec and have hundreds of new inventory cars available that are several months old and still unsold.

Very few. Tesla's DOI (days of inventory) right now is about 64.

Industry average?

250.

TSLA | Days Inventory Outstanding (DIO) Chart and History 2011-2020 | DiscoverCI

Right now, new vehicle inventories are down overall. According to Cox/vAuto data reported in September, the average days’ supply in the U.S. was 58 days and even lower on average for luxury brands e.g., Land Rover was only 19 days, Lexus was 29 days, and BMW was 32 days.

None of these types of data prove much of anything as far as "customer satisfaction."

It was great! They called me as they left the Service center, to let me know when they would arrive.

There were two Tesla employees (the driver and one in a second Tesla). The guy in the second Tesla arrived first, and played boom box sounds for us while we waited. 😂 They had three other deliveries in the area that afternoon and were car pooling back to the SC.

Once the car arrived, they didn’t make me feel rushed at all. In fact, they were prepared to show me much more than I needed or wanted them to. Car was clean and aside from a few bugs on the front, was no worse for the wear.

After I finished giving it a good once over, I accepted delivery and they let me know I had three days and 100 miles to report anything I did find later. Overall a very pleasant experience and actually saw TWO Tesla employees at the same time. 😉

Would not hesitate to recommend home delivery, especially to avoid the mob at the SC at end of quarter.
