I upgraded my M3 (Q3 2018 delivery) to FSD from EAP a few days ago.

While making an appointment for tire rotation this morning, I asked when I can get HW3 upgrade (it has HW 2.5) and was told that it'd take a few weeks for their system to get updated about my FSD purchase and I'd be notified of the availability of HW3 by email. I'll see how it goes.

My fsd appointment was rescheduled today from July 6th to August 10th now.

This is my second reschedule, both were pushed out almost a month further each time.

I'm in Southern California.

For those setting their first rescheduled appointment for FSD, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Most people seem to be dealing with at least 2 changes pushing appointments out a couple months.

I jumped when the price went from $4k to $3k for EAP owners. Just heard back from my service center that they don't have parts yet but have ordered them. Anyone else jump on during the sale and if so, what have you heard so far? What should I expect for a delay?

I jumped when I saw it available to me for $4k even though I never had EAP. Cannot complain now that is is $1k less as I got it for a discount over the original $7k price tag.

Enjoy the FSD and HW3!

Took almost 4 months from the time I first asked for the upgrade for them to have the parts to do it last week.

(and I've owned FSD since 2018)

I purchased FSD early may for a Dec 2018 Model 3. Kept nagging the Service center for the FSD upgrade. Got it a month later. Corona slowed things down, but they are shipping out computers a lot faster now. I live in NY for reference.

That’s good to know. I actually just heard from my service center (salt lake city) that they don’t have any in stock. I asked when they guessed it would come and they told me in 2 weeks. We have an awesome service center (unlike others I’ve heard horros stories about) so I have no reason to not believe this. I hope it’s right!

Has anyone watched the install process? I need to know if they need access to anything under the frunk or if the install is all done inside the cabin? I have my air setup in the frunk so I would need to remove it if they need access.

2018 model 3 performance, bought when fsd was 2.5k, got app notification to schedule, apt was canceled, part was ordered, part came in 4 days later, rescheduled apt, did it at service due to other issues, install was fast, had to wait on hubs due to click on acceleration. Car came back, had to update maps, option for lights and stop signs was still grayed out, power down from safety menu, power up and was able to turn it on. 2016 hw2 model S scheduled for the 13th with mcu2.

Put in service request about 10 days ago to:
  • rotate tires,
  • check wind noise at highway speeds at driver window and
  • install HW3 FSD computer that I PAID for AGES AGO!

Was scheduled for July 1st, yesterday.
I expected cancellations. None came.
So I got even more suspicious.

On July 1st I drove to Tesla Service Center. Noted much
improved work-flow. Parked M3. Showed a tech a little
crack on roof glass I'd been meaning to address since
delivery. He brought a razor blade and fixed it. It wasn't
really a crack.

Then as instructed I gave my DL and CC to the Enterprise
guy, he typed a bit and gave 'em back to me. He pointed to
a grey D75 (manual only) Model S. I drove off after some
fiddling with the Model S's dismally retro controls.

Today I got a text that the car is ready, hours: 8-5PM. I drove
that D75 like it was a rental. Rocket starts around others at
stoplights, you know the drill. Made it into the Service center
bay at exactly 4:59 PM. AT 5:01 they started rolling down the
doors. Whew.

The tech from yesterday greeted me by name and worked
at the computer. He warned me about ~25 minutes of camera
calibration before all the automation would be available. He
handed my car-card to a young woman who escorted me out
to my car in the lot. And I drove off the lot. Well, no, I'm leaving
out a humiliating detail. My M3 was wedged in a bit. I couldn't
squeeze in too easily. Couldn't use Summon because things
needed re-initializing. So she offered to "pull it out for you".
That was helpful. And it's so nice to be back "home" in Nicki.

Puzzling new stuff on the display, like penguins & cones waddling
around, big STOP signs and tiny stoplight mockups, but nothing
usable. Must be a video game. Says it will download updated
maps when I get to a Wifi spot. AP functions disabled - Camera
calibration 96% when I got home. Maybe this car "just isn't for me"
- LOL .

The bill was a grand total of $39, that's for the tire rotation and
inflation and sensor calibration or something. The customary
full service maintenance was free (top up windshield washer).

Got my HW3 upgrade July 1-3. Initial appt was pushed 1 week due to inventory issues.
Gave me a $400 uber credit valid for 63hrs (w/o me asking) as they couldn't promise same day service (appt was @ 10am).
I was under the impression that it would be a fairly quick turnaround b/c they offered a mobile service tech initially, but I couldn't guarantee 3 bars of wifi at my house so went to service (15min away).
Notified my car (2018 LR AWD 3) was ready 48hrs later.

Only thing i'm irked about is they put on the Dual Motor badge w/o even asking. I don't care if anyone outside my car knows I have AWD. The fewer badges the better as far as I'm concerned. I'm not going to make a big deal about it, but i'd think they should at least ask owners if they want it.

Most of my settings were retained (incl HomeLink) except for WiFi and Phone contacts / BT syncing. Was a busy weekend, so I just turned on the traffic light beta and the updated FSD visualizations UI beta tonight. Both enabled w/o issue. I guess my maps had already been updated since it had been 2-3 days since HW3 was installed? I haven't driven it w/ these options enabled - that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Does Tesla only provide loaners in certain markets/metros? Seems to me it would be cheaper than providing everyone a $400 uber credit (I used ~$300 of it)?

Seems hugely YMMV.

My SC always provided them in the past- but as the fleet gets larger (but the #s SCs doesn't get larger anywhere near in proportion) I suspect they've got fewer and fewer loaners for a lot more customers... and I was told none was available on my visit about 10 days ago and got an uber voucher instead.

Hello, I've joined this party late. I have the FSD computer upgrade scheduled at our service center for 7/20. It's only 15 minutes from me. They're also promoting having one of their mobile units do it. Judging by some of the stories here, this may be the way to go, as any Wifi or homelink issues can be fixed on the spot. Or if it's long install.

One other question: this is a hardware installation so they're taking a piece of equipment out and replacing it with another?

My guess would be that the processor inside the HW3 module has to be liquid cooled because it generates too much heat when operating. My mobile service was performed in 90 minutes; most of which was downloading and installing the latest software. I did have to wait until the map version was updated a day later to use all of the new functions. From reading posts in this thread and others about the availability of mobile service to do the HW3 upgrade, it seems to me that it is being rolled out to more service areas as time goes on. That's not to say that every SC is going to offer it; just that as the techs get more experience with what's involved with the swap, the possible problems that might occur and how to deal with them, you'll probably see more people getting the job done by a ranger.

Oh, a couple of minutes were spent swapping out the charge port pins as there's some service bulletin about them.

I had a scheduled appt to swap wheels and tires and decided to ask in the notes of the mobile app about the HW3 upgrade. They never said anything about it, I just got the invoice for the service appt scheduled tomorrow and it's listed on there.

The line item shows it as a retrofit without electrical wiring rework. I wonder if early on they were changing harnesses and more of the wiring? Possibly just adding some adapters now to shorten the time needed?

I had a pleasant surprise on July 3rd. Tesla mobile service technician showed up and asked me to remove a car seat and other things on the seat. I wondered why because the tire rotation wouldn't need them to be removed. I asked him and was told that he needed to access below the seat for the hardware upgrade. And, he did it in less than 2 hours. He warned me about losing home link and a couple of other settings, but everything was preserved except for bluetooth. Because it's a different bluetooth unit, I need to repair it with my phone and my wife's for the obvious reason.

Another is that software version and navigation data version went down. After a couple of nights, both went back up to the previous version and 'stop and light (beta)' can be turned on (at first it's greyed out pending the map data update).
