Mattel announces a Hot Wheels-branded remote-controlled Tesla Cybertruck

There’s a 1:64 scale RC Cybertruck that costs $20 and a much bigger 1:10 scale version that runs for $400. Both are expected to ship in December 2020 — but they’re limited release, and will only be available until they’re sold out, Mattel says.

Reserved mine. 1:10 scale. Already backorder. Can’t wait for December.

I think this is going to work wonders for Tesla. If this thing ships out a year before the actual truck, it will give people an “early” hands on look. With the 1:10 size you can see the interior, the back, the lights. If Tesla has 500K orders now, they may actually double or triple by next year. Plus they may even have less cancellations if there are people that are able to see it hands on a year before.

I really think instead of the micro-Cybertruck they should have made a micro-CyberATV that you could drive into the back of your mini-Cybertruck...

The idea "from what I gathered" is that the CyberTruck is is limited edition. if you got one, your lucky.

I get the limited thing, but they never said how limited it would be, right? Seems like they’d be passing up money for no reason by limiting themselves to a predetermined number.

The website now has a link to add your email in case stock is refilled. Perhaps “limited edition” was just a excitement placeholder.

Limited edition likely means they only planned on filling a certain number of orders directly and the rest of the stock would just be sold to stores.

Toys are just like cars. They plan capacity and volumes. To make tooling and order raw materials to build More than planned adds costs and may not be worth it for 10-20% more. 2-3x more and they do it.
