Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
I am trying to determine what the maximum tires size anyone can confirm so far on the MYP. I just swapped over to my winter setup, but will to replace the Pirelli’s come next spring. I am running 20mm spacer in the front and 25mm spacers in the rear.

I would like to run Vredestein Quatrac Pro’s.
Front:
275/40R21
Rear:
285/40R21

I believe I have seen some members post the rear size being okay, but I believe the front might be a little ambitious?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
I run 265/40R21 on the front and would not suggest going any larger — thus I agree with your intuition that 275/40R21 is a bit “ambitious”. I can virtually guarantee significant rubbing should this size rubber be mounted on the MYP with stock Uberturbines.

With regard to the proposed size for the rear axle, you can confidently mount your proposed spec (285/40R21) without issue.

Good luck.
Rauce, take lots of photos from different angles so we can see how those tires look on the car. Did you go with the Continental tires?
I got Pzeros again - 265/40/21 & 295/40/21

3rd & 5th pics are front wheels turned all the way.

Rauce, they look fantastic! They really fill out the wheel well perfectly as if you lowered your car. That front tire is so close ! Have you noticed any running while moving and backing up at full lock yet? Too bad you didn't do this sooner, I noticed you have some curb damage to the front wheels. Would these new tires have saved that front happening you think?
Let us know if you think this was the right call so far vs going with 275/35zr21 (F) and some 295/35zr21's in the rear? I just don't want any rubbing but I absolutely love the way the look. Perfect aspect ratio IMO. The 35's seem so thin! Thanks for sharing the pics. 🤙

that looks to be the max possible on the front, especially since the MYP is lower than a MYLR.
on the MYLR I have installed 255/55/18's and the lock-lock clearance looks identical.
I have seen a 1x1 inch patch of very light rubbing on the center forward portion of the wheel well liner.

So what you've installed is max for tire width/diameter on the 21" wheel. No more !!!!

Rauce, do you think you could take a heat gun and push the top of the fender liner up a smidge? If so would that be something to do when you have the front wheels off in preparation for the installation of the taller tire. I did this on my Toyota LC when stuffing a larger tire on the spot that had a slight rub when fully locked.

You could, i just let the tire rub out the one spot. The wheel well is going to be gross AF eventually so who cares.

Has it been confirmed that the 10.5” rear Uberturnines will fit on the front (sorry if I missed this)? To be truly “square” both the tires and the wheels should be identical.
Not sure either but I figured if the same tire size for the rear can be used for the front, why not go with all 275/53/21? But of course, it does look cooler with wider rear tires.

I guess going 275 on both would work if you want to spend time going to a tire shop to rotate the tires by remounting them. Might be a good move if you are actually caring about money. To me i am going for looks too. I mean common we are spending 70k on a car, 700 bucks every 20k miles is not much of a burden.

On my 2022 MYP, went with 20x10.5 " wheels , 275 40 20 square set up all around with Conti's. Will post some pictures soon. No Issues in terms of fitment. Have seen similar set up for others too.

OEM set up with 255 at front is 712mm Outer diameter. OEM with 275's is 726 mm OD. I have no issues at front clearing the knuckles with 275 40 20 with OD 728 mm on a 20x10.5" wheel. Bottom line is that OEM 275's uberturbines should fit without any issues.

Though I didn't drive much with OEM 21 Uberturbines and Michelins that came with MYP, I tend to think that ride is a little better but may be I am just imagining ;) but definitely looks much much better for me.

Has anyone had experience putting larger tires on 21" Uberturbines?

I like the look of the wheels bc I feel they fit the wheel well better, but would love the ride comfort and possible security against curb rash. 235/35 in the front and 255/35 in the rear I believe. Would increasing the sidewall height improvement noise reduction? With the added benefit of possibly better wheel well "fill”?
