May AWD/Performance Orders -- VIN / Status Thread

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
For anyone who ordered in AWD or Performance in May (before the floodgates opened): Did you get a VIN or a call yet?

My order date was May 20 for AWD and the estimate given at the time was 12-16 weeks -- which puts the delivery window between Mid-August to Mid-September. I have not made any changes to my order since I placed it.

In my account all I see is: "We will reach out to you to schedule your delivery date." I do see an order agreement, but it may have been there since I placed the order.

@FlyNavy01,

Would also love to know what CU is offering this. Thanks!
Apologies, but I've been asked not to publicly share CU info as it's quite a small one and I'm sure they'd be overloaded with inquiries if I do. The best non-local rates I've found outside of that have been through DCU (2.49% for 65 months last I checked).

I think FPCU has a promotion of 2.24% for 72 months right now as well.

I just got approved for 2.24% for 60 months at FPCU. They said they don't do anything over 60 months anymore. Must put 15% of MSRP as down payment. $3500 deposit counts. Max LTV is 95% of MSRP.

Looking for some help/input on my Model 3 order. Currently have a reservation for the Long Range Battery Model that I configured and made the $2,500 order payment on 4/18. With the reduced price for the AWD and Performance models I reached out to my delivery specialist to see if I could upgrade to the Performance model.

Was told on 6/27 that if I wanted the upgrade it would delay my delivery at least 3-6 weeks because I would receive a new VIN. He asked me to confirm and he could make those changes. Confirmed that I would like to proceed with getting the Performance Model and was very excited.

On Friday, my DS informed me that he had an update. In order for me to switch my order to the Performance AWD option it would require me to cancel my current order and lose my $3,500 deposit.

Called their assistance number (888) 51-TESLA and spoke to a rep and supervisor who stated the same thing, would have to lose the deposit and start over.

Would seem like it would be an easy decision for Tesla to give my vehicle to someone else (who I think would be happy to get their vehicle sooner) and pick up more cash from me buying the higher end Model 3.

Should I be reaching out to someone else or do I let this go and take delivery of my Long Range Model 3? Would love feedback from the group on your thoughts/suggestions!

Well, that’s price gouging if I’ve ever heard it. That’s a company trying to get every single dollar they can get. We know they’re trying to get to profitability but I feel that’s a bit much

Do you guys think they have been producing AWDs and perhaps stockpiling it or they haven’t started production on it at all. Honestly thinking about switching my order to RWD but don’t want to switch then have a whole wave of AWD VIN assignment hit just a few days later. Given my luck, that would probably happen :(

Seems really harsh as the P Model is more margin for Tesla anyway. I think you need to keep trying until you get a sympathetic person.

I think that they have been producing them, but they haven't been homologated yet. If they had we would have seen EPA mileage rating/data. They can't sell them until that is done. (Unless they want to pay a fine for each car sold.)

edit: It looks like it is listed in the guide, just with no data. So maybe Tesla is in progress of, or has completed, the setup but hasn't given them the go-ahead to release the data yet.

@MP3Mike,

This sounds the most logical and makes the most sense as to what’s going on right now. These AWDs and P3Ds HAVE to be rolling off the line.....VINS have been registered. So what’s the delay.....prob what you surmise and I’d have to agree.
What “Guide” are you referring to? Link?

The Fuel Economy Guide for 2018 vehicles.

The other interesting thing is that the 2017 Model 3 gets 126 MPGe while the 2018 Model 3 gets 130 MPGe. But still the same range, so maybe they made the charging more efficient?
