MCU Upgraders - Heads up

Just wanted to put this out there, as I didn't see anything else posted when I searched. I recently had my 2017 Model X (MCU 1, HW 2) upgraded to MCU 2 and HW 3. After getting my car back, I noticed my audio didn't sound "premium" any more (less bass, not as loud on the same volume setting, etc). I noticed my EQ settings now maxed out at 8 instead of 12. I'm coming up on 50k miles so I decided to have a mobile service appointment scheduled to check it out just in case.

Mobile service was out today and they confirmed my suspicion. After the MCU and HW upgrade, my audio was somehow set back to "Base" instead of Premium. The EQ settings didn't matter (all new cars with MCU 2 have EQ settings that max out at 8, whether its Base or Premium) but the sound in my car was in fact not as good as when I dropped it off. The mobile tech verified my concern and is escalating it to engineering for a solution.

Hope this helps someone out that may have had the same suspicion but never acted on it!

I did the same upgrade a few months ago for my 2017 MX (MCU1, HW2.5). Do you know what the tech did to determine the setting had changed? When I last checked I still see Premium listed under Additional vehicle information.

I heard about this before I upgraded mine to HW3 and MCU2. I recorded a sound scan track that ran from 10hz to 30khz. Ran a before and after with an audio scanner.

After the upgrade there was ZERO difference. Premium audio cranked out the bass and trebble same as before.

I suspect people are picking sub standard audio after their upgrade.

@Tonez I went searching because my ears are kinda miffed at the moment. I been exploring and playing with immersive sound which seems to have replace Dolby. Search this thread, "MCU2 Upgrade Audio EQ Balancing - Coming From MCU1". It was enlightening, however not sure if this the thread @gaswalla is referring to. Take a look at post #66. HTH

Thanks for this. Mine was (and still is) missing the standard/immersive sound slider. My EQ sliders also won’t go into the negative. It’s completely jacked up. Just waiting for engineering to fix it for me.

not sure what they did but I do know my music settings are missing the slider to change from standard and immersive. Assuming only cars with premium sound have that, mine currently doesn’t since it somehow was set back to base audio.

Could you confirm if you can now view the side repeater cameras when driving like below?

Did any of you have an issue getting the parts in for the upgrade? I have been waiting since October 24th for the parts in order to upgrade. Yes, I am happy it is $1000 less...but I just want it upgraded...
  1. MCU INTEL HW3 UPGRADE-For TegraAP3.0 - NORTH AMERICA
    Part #: 9874563-00-B
    Order Date: October 24, 2020

I ordered the MCU2 with radio upgrade in mid-October. Installation was delayed until mid-January due to the radio module being on backorder.

Installation was completed last week - just before the $1000 price decrease.

Jester, at least when you do get the installation done - it will save you $1000...
