Het hele verhaal. Van beneden naar boven lezen....
Software takes into account usage of A/C, which isn't a huge factor, but can affect by 8% or 10% if really hot or cold. For EV, sitting in traffic not as big a deal as it is for ICE cars, but certainly outside temp would affect range.
Version 6.2 is already in beta now and assuming results of open beta go well, we'll start wide release in 10 days or so.
There will always be a connection in the car, but Musk doesn't answer whether it will be free always or charged.
Tesla doesn't have in mind putting hands on wheel to be true auto steering. If someone is distracted or fell asleep, that would be backwards. This is auto steering in the sense it's like auto pilot and then you're paying attention, it should take care of you if you have moments of distraction.
Musk says the goal is to have wait time of 0 and also have multiple suerpchargers on the same route.
We designed Model S to be a sophisticated computer on wheels. Tesla is as much a software company as it is a hardware company. A huge part of what Tesla is is a SV software company. We view it as the same as updating phone and laptop.
If we wanted to, we could create a 500 mile battery pack right now, but the marginal utility from goigng to 400 mile range to 500 mile range is pretty low. Lot of cost and not a lot of benefit to that. Sweet spot is from 250 mile to 350 mile range, that's really ideal.
I do think anything below 200 miles isn't passing, and people probably want 20 to 30% more than that.
I do think 200 miles is kind of minimum threshold for an EV. Has to be true 200 miles (cant be A/C off, level ground, etc.)
The X is coming out this summer and people will be pretty excited about it. It's a better car then has been seen so far in the show car.
It is a significant change in the UI paradigm that will take place.
The UI change that's coming is part of newly enabled software. "We're kind of waking up the car if you will. and allowing it to do more over time."
Elon says range is one of the issues that people have about EVs and it's important to address emphatically and we hope this release will go along way towards doing that.
Totally difference concept in the car
Car looks up charging stations in real time (20-30 seconds), also communicating with Superchargers and assessing status.
Next question is on Supercharger network update and reason why people don't buy Model S, is range a reason?
Elon says if we took out the longest range version of the car, 85D, it's 280 miles at 85 mph. You'd be driving for 3-4 hours at that speed on a freeway. If you're driving at typical speed in city (25 mph), that's 10 hours. Adding range wouldn't make that much of a difference. Some more range would be better, but wouldn't make that big of a difference.
Elon says happy with Model S sales in Australia (reporter is from Australia). As a result, sig investment in Supercharger network in Australia.
Software that I just talked about that will make a difference to people is really important.
First question is on addressing the image of electric cars.
Q&A starting now.
Also will have valet mode which will limit speed. Couple of other things he won't get into.
Key feature today is addressing range though.
Improved radio reception of terrestrial radio as well.
Improved the audio codec as well to make the sound better in the Model S. It'll be a noticeable improvement, Elon says.
Also testing the summon feature, so car can come and find you. Also can park itself in the garage too.
Testing SF-Seattle route. Can do almost entire route without driver touching the wheel at all.
Version 7 of the software will have complete UI overhaul b/c the way the car will interact with you in the future. Will also include auto steering.
Also some basic things, like blind spot, warning spot being introduced in this release as well.
This release includes automatic emergency breaking, a feature that will be in all Tesla cars going forward. I think it'll be extremely powerful in saving lives.
Couple of other things being unveiled as well.
Also tells you how long it might take. Typical journey starts around 9 a.m., drive for 3 hours, get bite to eat. We've placed Superchargers at standard inflection points. Any normal trip, Supercharger network and time driven/time ratio works out really well.
The second feature is trip planner. It will now look up supercharger in real time to get you to the most convenient route to your destination. You can get messages from Tesla phone app.
"It's basically impossible to run out of range, unless you do so intentionally."
Also factors in wind speeds, high mountain ranges. Don't need to do any thinking ahead of time.
Over next 12 months, all over Europe, North America, Japan main islands and good chunks of Asia will be covered
The first of the two application is range assurance application. This , in real time, communicates with Superchargers and destination chargers and it warns you before you drive out of range.
With version 6.2 of the software, we're happy to introduce two key things to give peace of mind
As you know, most cars don't improve over time. The Model S is getting faster, smarter and better thanks to software updates.
